The Staff Accountant serves as a liaison to all customers by researching, answering financial questions in a timely manner. Under general direction will assist in the preparation, review and distribution of accurate financial statements.

  • Participates in the month end close process. Insures all standard and special entries are prepared and recorded in a timely manner. Completes a trend review of assigned financial statement expense categories and reviews assigned balance sheet accounts. All month end procedures will be completed by the 10th of the following month. During the month end close period, the 1st through the 10th, there may be long work hours including weekends to meet the deadline

  • Prepared monthly balance sheet reconciliation for assigned balance sheet accounts. The account reconciliation will represent the most current month ending account balance with the appropriate detail to support the balance. Any reconciling items will be researched and corrected within 30 days if possible. If the item will remain as reconciling for over 30 days, justification will be included in the reconciliation file. Balance sheet reconciliation will be due to the assistant controller on a monthly basis for account review

  • Provided documentation and prepares work papers as required by HCA for internal audit, year-end close and the preparation of the Medicare Cost Report. While these requests are normally annual the analytical work may be done on a monthly basis to complete a requested period

  • Provides guidance and training to accounting staff in performing account reconciliation's and other accounting functions

  • Professionally handles requests for financial information; maintains composure and addresses issues to resolution or appropriately routes the request to the correct staff member for assistance

  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget. The budget is due to the Divisional Office by mid-September each year. The budget will be reviewed and accepted by mid October. The Accountant lead as financial liaisons will meet with assigned department heads and develop their expense budget for the upcoming year. This process starts in July to meet the September deadline. Input into the budget system will be ongoing throughout the budget process

Required Education or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field

  • Previous accounting experience

Preferred Education or Experience

  • 3-5 years of previous hospital accounting experience

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work assignments

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Access and Vision Clear Access
