JOB TITLE: Project Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, plans and manages staff activities related to warehouse operations, custodial services, and inventory stocking in a commissary under the terms of a government contract. Employees in this job class manage staff, provide customer support, and oversee purchasing/accounts payable, budget and operations management within a commissary. This job requires knowledge of distribution operations, inventory management, and the ability to organize and direct work processes and manage a work team.
Plans, organizes and manages contractually provided warehouse management, custodial services, and inventory stocking of a commissary, with full responsibility for budgeting and meeting operational goals. Provides for quality control, inventory management, record keeping, and management reporting.
Manages compliance with contract terms, conditions and obligations. Develops a professional working relationship with key contract personnel, and establishes official lines of communication.
Supervises the work of department staff, and provides for selection, goal setting, performance management, professional development, work issue counseling, and rewards and recognition, in accordance with Company programs, policies and procedures.
Establishes daily staffing requirements based on volumes and customer demands, and coordinates daily work schedules to create the most efficiency while providing proper service levels.
Responds to email and telephone requests, and serves as an information source regarding department operations and services.
Establishes departmental work processes and maintains written policies and procedures. Schedules and prioritizes tasks and ensures adherence to procedures, regulations and guidelines.
Tracks operational data and produces a variety of management reports and presentations.
Meets regularly with customers to ensure good service and clear communications, define expectations, resolve problems, and improve processes.
Conducts and participates in a variety of departmental and other meetings.
Occasional travel between facilities is required.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Comparable combination of formal education and work experience. Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
Three or more years of distribution, grocery, logistics or warehousing management experience, including at least two years in a supervisory position
Familiarity with contract terms and conditions;
Management skills to select, train and develop assigned staff in proper departmental practices, procedures, and safety requirements;
Ability to administer performance management and disciplinary processes effectively, and address employee relations issues appropriately;
Flexibility in responding to changing customer demands and circumstances, and handling multiple projects at the same time;
Computer literacy and skill to operate specialized software related to departmental operations including database, Internet, spreadsheet, and word processing programs;
Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and to present information and respond to questions from customers and management;
Human relations skills to build effective working relationships with staff, management and customers;
Mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests;
Demonstrated ability to solve a wide range of operational and strategic management problems;
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:
Standing and/or walking (40-60%)
Viewing computer monitor requiring close vision (40-60%)
Bending, stooping and lifting boxes of up to 35 pounds (20-30%)
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a warehouse or distribution environment with forklifts and material handling equipment, and exposure to hot and cold depending on external weather conditions. Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week.
