The Washington Post Senior Compensation Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia

Are you a compensation expert looking to exercise your strategic thinking muscles? As Senior Compensation Analyst for The Washington Post’s dynamic Human Resources department, you’ll put your skills to work managing our day-to-day compensation processes for both The Post and its LLC’s, while administering strategic-level programs designed to strengthen and enhance this critical function. While you are working to refine the processes of our current methodologies, you will be working with the HR Director of Total Rewards to continue the implementation of our internally equitable and externally competitive base pay/variable pay programs. In addition, you’ll use your expertise to develop job evaluation methodologies and salary structures. You’ll develop campaigns and initiatives for promoting pay programs and rewards. Why?   • Provide compensation consulting services to hiring managers, senior management, and HR team members including job design, evaluation and competitive market analysis
  • Administer the annual merit increase process which includes configuration in WorkDay, launching the program, and supporting The Post and LLC’s through this process
  • Administer the annual bonus program, which includes maintaining the eligibility list, budgeting/accrual, calculating the payout and developing employee communications
  • Participate in multiple salary surveys
  • Maintain the online market-pricing tool by regularly uploading job and employee information, working with departments on job matching, and managing third-party vendors
  • Manage/participate in strategic initiatives such as developing a total rewards philosophy and implementing a company-wide job evaluation/classification system


  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination)
  • Proven knowledge of compensation practices, as well as state and federal laws
  • Prior experience managing compensation programs and data integrity
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database software
  • Excellent skills in project management and verbal/written communication
  • PHR, SPHR, CCP or advanced degree (desired)
