We are currently looking for a super-flexible, can’t-wait-to-learn-more catalog, web and advertising Editor who has what it takes to work in our Creative Marketing Services Department in Monroe, Wisconsin. This position will mainly be responsible for proofreading, editing and writing technical copy for all brands in our portfolio. This is a great part-time job that could grow into something bigger!

You’ll Be Responsible For: With the fundamentals of “good copy style” and the Colony Brands Copy Style WIKI in your toolbox, the Editor helps proof all marketing and technical copy from the copy staff and gains approval for new or changing rules from merchants, buyers, quality assurance technicians, art directors, brand leaders and legal staff. This position will also work on special projects like writing and monitoring web product copy for all brand sites, learning SEO best practices and updating site page elements, and more. Negotiating shared agreement among many viewpoints will be a key skill for this role; with the help of the managing editor, your success in maintaining this important style guide will hinge on your ability to recommend solutions that are best for the customer, concise, informative and meet all legal standards. You’ll also be responsible for:

  • Helping edit and proof over 12,000 print, web, homepage and advertising collateral pieces

  • Performing fact-checking of copy, checks copy against technical specifications

  • Ensuring proofing and routing deadlines are met on time

  • Working on multi-channel projects including repurposing current positioning on products or services, editing product instruction manuals, reformatting print copy to web copy and/or prepping photos and other materials for our websites

  • Identifying opportunities to continuously improve the presentation of our processes, products and services

Ideally, you’ll have a 2 or 4 year degree in Advertising, English, Journalism, Communication or Publishing. In addition, we are looking for:

  • Proven ability to write, proof or edit organized selling copy

  • Experience working collaboratively in a high-performance, high production environment

  • Has a keen understanding of the legal issues and return costs misinformation can cause and pre-emptively finds and manages issues before they arise

  • Demonstrated experience giving feedback in a tactful but direct manner.

  • Excellent written communication skills with associates, peers, seniors, managers, directors and VPs

  • Experience prioritizing and organizing in a high-pressure environment; producing quality work on tight deadline

  • Excellent detail management skills

  • Proficiency in computer-based copy production (InDesign, Word, Web CMS). Experience with HTML helpful but not required.
