Saturday & Sunday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Monday & Tuesday 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Wednesday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Thursday & Friday off

We are currently looking for a

Direct Support Professional for our Residential Houses: Intensive IRA’s

Various hours and locations throughout Columbia, County, NY

Now… Just Imagine How Great You Would Feel going to work every day at a residence situated on a serene lakefront property, or in a beautiful country location, or near the fantastic City of Hudson, NY … where You will spend the day helping individuals with the discovery of their own GREATNESS! No experience necessary. We will provide you with the support and training needed so you will be fantastic at your job.

Our Intensive IRA’s (Individualized Residential Alternative) are single family residences located throughout Columbia County where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live with the added support of staff to assist them with daily living skills. We currently have 5 Intensive Residential Homes.


What you’ll do in this job:

Be a Mentor & Role Model

  • Support the unique personal desires and needs of the individuals. Empower them to live the life they want to live. Example: Does a person want to lose weight? You will support them in learning about food choices and the variety of ways to exercise.

  • Assist each individual in knowing their personal strengths and worth and sharing these traits with others in various community settings.

  • Work in a professional and ethical manner to establish a trusting relationship with the individuals and the employees at the site.

  • Follow all training, safety and reporting procedures. Maintain records and ensure completion of all required documentation. Yes there is documentation…it’s how we get reimbursed…but we train you so don’t be afraid…

  • Assist the individuals in maintaining a comfortable and orderly home by teaching them within the scope of their abilities home cleaning activities, care for clothing and minor repairs. This might mean shoveling snow, doing laundry, dusting, vacuuming, etc.

  • Encourage and support the individuals to take part in volunteer, educational, recreational, and work activities in their community. Go to a concert, a movie, take part in a fundraiser, ride a motorcycle….

  • As needed, provide medication support to each individual at the site. Paid training for this!

  • Participate in meetings to stay focused on the individuals’ wants, needs and goals.

  • Safely operate and maintain agency vehicles. Obey those traffic laws!

  • Perform in a manner consistent with the NADSP Code of Ethics.

Fun days full of rock concerts, baseball games, movies, restaurants, shopping or even just a trip

for a yummy ice cream cone.


What we need from you:

Let’s start with the “must haves” (aka: required):

  • High School Diploma or GED (now called TASC)

  • Exceptional written, communication, and computer skills

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to be certified in all required trainings

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds

  • A SOLID work ethic

  • Someone who enjoys helping people to become independent

  • An AMAZING attitude- We can train you for the rest!

Now what we would “like to have” (aka: preferred):

  • Two year degree in Human Services

  • One year experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • A fun and creative approach to everything; from shopping to outings

  • Someone who can sing like Elvis Presley and shake it like Chubby Checker (or at least try)

  • Ability to make sound judgment calls

  • Award winning apple pie baker, unless you make cakes- that’s even better (one of our recruiters LOVES cake)

  • A witty sense of humor and willingness to learn
