Key role responsible for independently monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of operational risk management for the firm’s Treasury functions across MUAH and BTMU –US.
Assess effectiveness of operational risks specific to business functions including investment securities, derivatives, funding, liquidity risk management, interest rate risk management, funds transfer pricing and securitizations.
Manage risk and control assessments through facilitated workshops with process owners and other stakeholders.
Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions to BU management, and assist to ensure remediation is accomplished in a timely manner.
Escalate significant and emerging risks to BURM and senior management
Manage quarterly assessments of operational risk related to specific processes/functions list above.
Facilitate reviews, approvals and control certifications.
Defend risk assessments with stakeholders and provide support during Internal Audits and bank regulatory exams
Produce monthly and quarterly operational risk reporting in conjunction with the Business Unit Risk Manager’s Integrated Operational Risk Report for FMA Treasury.
Review and challenge evidence of remediation of open issues to assist the Business Unit Risk Manager to opine on the readiness of submitting open issue closure packages (evidence) to Internal Audit of the Americas and Regulatory Affairs Office
Review operational losses to ensure that key controls are identified and remediation actions are appropriate and effective.
Internal / External Relationships
Establish strong working relationships across the Financial Management of the Americas Business Unit Risk Management team and other respective risk teams in the 1st lines of IB&M, Risk Management, ISA Operations, ISA- IT
Manage relationships with line of business managers across 1st line Financial Management of the Americas (FMA), specifically Corporate Treasury (MUB/MUAH) and Global Management Division of Americas (GMDA) Portfolio Management Group (BTMU-US)
Build and manage relationships with other 1st and 2nd line functions, Information Systems of Americas, Americas Model Risk Management of the Americas, Operational Management Division, Information Systems of Americas, and colleagues of the Risk Management of the Americas organization
Manage relationships with Internal Audit of the Americas, Regulatory Affairs Office, and banking regulators
Business and Technical Knowledge
Extensive knowledge of treasury functions and core processes within a bank.
Strong knowledge of treasury processes (e.g. investment securities for bank investment portfolio, wholesale funding activities, liquidity risk management and interest rate risk management
Strong knowledge of operational risk management methodologies to identify and assess inherent and residual risks for treasury specific processes.
Working knowledge of risk appetite statements (enterprise level and business unit level).
Knowledge of identifying and establishing key risk indicators to monitor where risks are changing over periods
Familiar with banking regulatory requirement s for treasury functions including Basel III LCR, Basel III OCI, and Volcker compliance requirements
Strong knowledge of funding, short and long term liquidity risk management, interest rate risk management
Working knowledge of investment securities sponsored by U.S. government and government agencies (e.g. Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac products including
Agency Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities
Knowledge of non-US government supported investment securities (e.g. CLOs, Non-Agency CMBS, Non-Agency RMBS)
10 years demonstrated experience in operational risks related to capital markets and treasury processes specific to investment securities trading (front, middle, back office functions)
Knowledge of associated accounting processes/ SOX controls
Excellent management and organizational skills,
Excellent communication skills, oral and written, ability to interact with all levels of management
Self-motivated, strong work, ability to prioritize, make decisions, & work under tight deadlines
Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
College degree or equivalent professional experience
