The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area Pathway of Hope Program Assistant in Staten Island, New York

Overview

The Pathway of Hope program assistant will support the Pathway of Hope program administratively in a variety of ways. Some of the responsibilities are: keeping statistics, coordinating volunteers, ordering food and aggregating social service resources.

Responsibilities

  • Greet all visitors to the building in a positive manner assisting them as necessary.

  • Assist in various ways with all social ministries at The Stapleton Corps

  • Keep regular inventory of food pantry and soup kitchen supplies

  • Coordinate all volunteers at the Stapleton Corps.

  • Assist in the keeping of all Social Services statistics.

  • Place food deliveries and coordinate the restocking pantry when deliveries arrive.

  • Pack and distribute pantry bags on a daily basis (per Social Ministries Director instruction)

  • Make appointments for pantry visits.

  • Act as the receptionist for the Stapleton Corps. Answering calls and taking messages as necessary.

  • Check, sort and deliver all mail (including PO Box) daily.

  • Prepare invoices for processing by Corps Officer.

  • Create documents and spreadsheets in Microsoft office as necessary.

  • Keep work area and surrounding area clean at all times.

  • Be willing to pray with any client who comes through the program.

  • Consistently reports to work on time and is ready to begin work at the start of the shift.

  • Always provides proper notification when late absent.

  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.

  • Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients, program, agency and/or The Salvation Army.

  • Reports to work well groomed and in compliance with dress code.

  • Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.

  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace and towards job.

  • Projects a good image in dealing with the public and clients.

  • Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring program.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 3-4 Years Experience in an office setting

  • Experience is the social services field preferred

  • Willingness to be a part of a Ministry Team

  • Positive attitude and passion for assisting the ministry of The Salvation Army
