Job Description

Spire is seeking a Gas Supply Accountant to work in our St. Louis, Missouri operation. This position will be assisting the Senior Gas Supply Accountants in all gas accounting functions for Laclede Energy Resources (LER). We are looking for a highly motivated candidate that is very attentive to detail and likes the challenge of a working in a fast paced and changing working environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce monthly gas revenues and expense summary for the Company’s Gas Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Reporting departments

  • Maintain the supply and transport invoice records and produce various summary reports

  • Process and approve Gas Supply invoices for payment by verifying the accuracy to sales contracts, tariffs, and pipeline statements and reconciling any differences

  • Generate and check sales invoices to contracts and confirmations and maintain sales records

  • Prepare and distribute all gas revenue and expense summary reports and reconciliation details needed by various departments

  • Calculate and track company’s storage inventory balances

  • Prepare and perform journal entries into the company’s general ledger system

  • Upload daily forward price curves and index settlements from various sources into deal capture system, run portfolio valuation and produce and distribute daily risk reports in accordance with LER’s Risk Management Policy

  • Prepare and distribute information as necessary to fulfill external reporting requirements

  • Communicate with all internal and external personnel necessary to resolve volume, price, and/or payment discrepancies that arise

  • Other duties that may be assigned

Required Education: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)

  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent experience

Required knowledge, skill and abilities:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Knowledge of the Walker general ledger system

  • Knowledge of OutlookSoft reporting system

  • Ability to use personal computer and spreadsheet applications

  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator

  • Ability to operate a copier and fax machine

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

Physical Demands and / or Work Environment:

  • Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed in a shared office environment.

  • Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday

  • Overtime may be required for monthly closing and other due date driven projects
