A day in the life…
The director of sales and gross margin is responsible for managing and driving the monthly presentation of results to the executive team and will build, develop and lead the Inventory Accounting & Analysis, Sales Audit and Vendor Allowance (comprised of Vendor Services and Cosmetics Business Office) teams. In addition, this position will identify and recommend new or revised strategies to support the changing and evolving business objectives associated with sales, gross margin, inventory and vendor allowances, while driving improvements for increased efficiency. We are looking for an experienced individual to develop strategy for inventory, sales audit and vendor allowances.
Oversee the development, implementation and ongoing management of accounting, reporting and analysis for sales, gross margin, inventory, vendor allowances and related areas
Maintain the financial integrity of inventory valuation, including the physical inventory process
Partner with business units and others to anticipate future business changes and challenges with respect to sales and gross margin and proactively develop and implement new or revised plans
Provide direction and leadership for the Inventory Accounting & Analysis, Sales Audit and Vendor Allowance teams in developing strategies and practices to support the Company's long-range goals
Build and develop these teams to drive higher levels of performance and overall results
Stay current on industry practices and issues, assessing and communicating their potential impact on the business
Develop and monitor department budgets
You own this if you have…
Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in management and leadership roles
3-5 years management experience with areas related to inventory, sales and gross margin
Retail or Nordstrom experience
Ability to interact with peers and leadership across all Nordstrom functions
Extensive experience providing analysis, advice and direction in support of a business
Demonstrated success in the development and execution of strategic, cost-effective business plans
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Proficiency in MS Windows and Office suite, especially Powerpoint
Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
