The Office of Institutional Research (IR) at California State University, San Bernardino collaborates with the campus community in support of strategic planning, enrollment planning, assessment, and continuous improvement through consultative program design and timely dissemination of reliable information. Our goals are:
- Provide expertise and support for program design, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Develop, provide, and maintain timely and accurate institutional data to internal and external audiences.
- Conduct project-based research and analyses.
Position Summary: Under general direction, formulates, conducts and reviews research studies; prepares interpretative analysis and graphic presentation of data; provides consultive service to subject-matter specialists on the utilization of research techniques; plans, organizes and supervises the work of a small professional group; and does other work as required.
Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research, the Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting data analyses, forecasts, predictions, constructing and maintaining research databases, making recommendations, and writing research results to support planning, enrollment management, policy formation, decision-making, and accreditation. Will take ownership of projects from planning, design, execution, monitoring, writing of results, and dissemination of information. Will design, implement questionnaires, perform analysis, and report on results in support of educational effectiveness. Will take disparate databases, create new databases, and maintain them by creating protocols, documenting changes, and communicating with others. Will understand data specifications, elements, dictionaries, reporting structures, and reporting requirements for federal, state, CSU, and accrediting mandates. Will review all data for completeness and accuracy, and develop ways to improve data integrity. Will build and maintain data dashboards and data warehouse. Will be responsible for answering requests for statistics from campus constituencies, college publishers, local, state, and federal reporting. Will provide oversight of one or more graduate assistants. Will work collaboratively with other offices.

*Education and Experience: *
Must be a graduate of a four-year college or university required (Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in education institutional research, data analysis, data management, information technology, operations research, quality assurance, and/or project management. (Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.)
Background must include statistical analysis, research methodology, working with quantitative data, higher education, psychometrics, data problem solving. Background in any one of these areas (public policy formation, information systems, computer science, mathematics, economics, or social science research) is preferred. Expert knowledge of SPSS (e.g., statistical analyses, writing syntax), Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, macros), Word, and Powerpoint. Understand database concepts and data modeling, experience in designing, constructing, analyzing, and maintaining large databases. Demonstrated superior written and oral communication skills are required. Experience in SQL, Peoplesoft, or a business intelligence tool (Tableau, iDashboard) preferred. Applicants must have the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects concurrently, work collaboratively, meticulous attention to detail, think critically and strategically, highly organized, and perform under pressure.
Possession of a master's or doctoral degree in social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related field is preferred.
