Employment Status: Permanent / Probationary & Temporary "non-exempt" positions (with the possibility of the full-time positions converting to probationary)

Deadline: A pool of qualified candidates will be established for current and future vacancies. Qualified applicants will be kept active from July 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016.
Under the general supervision of the office supervisor, the incumbent will act as a Family PACT Health Education Assistant along with duties in the Health Education department and a variety of general office clerical and medical records related duties in support of the Student Health Center Operations. The incumbent will perform all aspects of Family PACT enrollment and reproductive counseling. The incumbent will identify students that qualify for the Family PACT program and interpret and explain covered services and program limitations. The incumbent will assist patients in interpreting and completing the Family PACT Client Eligibility Certification (CEC) application. The incumbent will assist in planning and conducting discussion groups, workshops, open sessions, and other health education activities with emphasis on wellness education including nutrition education, stress, peer health education program and so forth. The incumbent will provide health education talks to selected groups covering relevant current and emerging university and community health issues. The incumbent will conduct individual or group discussions to obtain reaction to health education programs and to assess student health and health education needs. Assist in program planning by identifying barriers to good health practices among the target groups. The incumbent will assist with front desk coverage when needed.
Applicants must possess sufficient experience to perform the assigned duties and a bachelors degree in health sciences, public health or a related field. A masters degree is preferred. Applicants must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to individuals with various interests and from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Applicants must have the ability to prepare and deliver informational talks or lead group discussions using visual and other aids and provide clear, understandable answers to questions which are raised by target group audiences. Applicants must have the ability to conduct interviews or group discussions to obtain data on health habits and needs, observe reactions to questions, and record or summarize findings. Applicants must have the ability to conduct research using a variety of sources to develop and prepare education materials. Applicants must have the ability to draft various staff reports and articles for publication in newsletters and bulletins, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, and target segments of the student community.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
