California State University San Bernardino Extended Education Specialist I / College of Extended Learning (2 positions) in San Bernardino, California


Employment Status: Full-time, probationary, "exempt" position.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 p.m.; The position requires that the incumbent be on-call for student emergencies, working outside of assigned hours on certain occasions, and the willingness to travel domestically.

Typical Activities

Under the supervision of the Director of Professional and Continuing Education, the incumbent will be responsible for planning and developing content and format of educational offerings for degree and certificate programs, for promoting community participation, for directing operation aspects of programs, for making arrangements for faculty and sites, and for preparing budgets and conducting program reviews and evaluations.

The incumbent will assess the needs for new or additional educational offerings; creating and developing format and establishing course outlines and content of classes and programs. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining partnership with academic partners/stakeholders on campus. The incumbent will arrange program/class logistics, both on and off campus and develop budget projections and financials; identifying funding resources for programs. The incumbent will provide oversight of financials, evaluating the effectiveness of the program through fiscal analysis and program evaluations, including cost, attendance, student feedback, faculty, and third party vendors. The incumbent will work with Marketing department to plan promotion and publicity in collaboration with campus partners while directing operational and logistical aspects of programs assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for completing required documents for the Chancellor's Office Approval, when applicable and coordinating communications with campus and student stakeholders during implementation and delivery of Special Sessions Programs including the following offices: Undergraduate Studies, Graduate Studies, Academic Programs & Scheduling, Records, Registration & Evaluation, Financial Aid, Accounting, Admissions, Student Services. The incumbent will identify community partners and events for promotion and publicity of programs, and will also representing CEL to the community and develop working relationships with community partners. Incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must possess the equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university (or equivalent work experience) and a minimum of two years' experience in planning classes or programs in a specialized field or area, preferably in higher, extended, or adult education. Additionally, the applicant must have experience developing resources, budgets, and marketing plans for educational programs and acting as a liaison with the community. The applicant must demonstrate a record of organizational skills and attention to detail; strong interpersonal communication skills and sensitivity to the special needs of professional adult learners; excellent oral and written English communication skills; Knowledge of planning and conducting orientations for students; familiarity with basic principles and trends in the field of Adult and Continuing Education; Experience organizing and coordinating programs, including youth camps; and Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel).
