Employment Status: Full-time, Probationary, "Exempt" position.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Typical Activities

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Accounting, this position leads the day-to-day activities of the Reporting and Tax unit, which is mainly responsible for the preparation of the University's financial and tax reporting to the State Controller's Office, Chancellor's Office, IRS, and other outside entities, completing audit requirements, ensuring compliance to Unrelated Business Income Tax and Nonresident Alien tax regulations, and performing the maintenance of the chart of accounts.

The Reporting and Tax lead serves as liaison with auditors during GAAP audits, and as the campus key contact for coordination on tax matters with the Chancellor's Office. This positions provides support to the month-end and year-end close process, records and reconciles Capital Assets, ensures that GAAP accounting processes and procedures are followed, examines financial documents and reports for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with GAAP, prepares required PBC items and performs a variety of complex analyses and reconciliations.

The incumbent assists with special projects and assignments, and provides training, guidance, and assistance to other employees, including lead direction to a GAAP accountant.

Minimum Qualifications

*Education: *

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. *Experience: *

  • At least five years progressively responsible experience in accounting or similar role. Knowledge:

  • Accounting theory, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, procedures and related laws, rules and regulations.

  • Advanced MS Excel and strong working knowledge of automated financial systems such as PeopleSoft.
  • Familiar with Tax reporting (NRA and UBIT desirable).
  • Higher education, CSU practices, fund accounting knowledge is desirable. Abilities:

  • Independently perform advanced professional accounting work requiring a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, exercising substantial judgment and discretion.

  • Work cooperatively with a diverse group of stakeholders including auditors and various levels of management.
  • Communicate orally and in writing including demonstrated ability to make presentations to various constituents.
  • Provide lead direction to a staff member. Preferred Additional Competencies:
