Performs routine and complex Nuclear Medicine Imaging procedures on ambulatory, and hospital patients in a Physician Office, Clinic, and Hospital Setting as requested by a physician or other licensed provider and under general supervision of a Radiologist, Cardiologist, or Nuclear Medicine Physician for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. The Technologist must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient and be sure they are comfortable and at ease during the exam and provide care to the patients while obtaining diagnostic quality images for interpretation by a Radiologist, Cardiologist, or Nuclear Medicine Physician.


Practices accepted and proper Nuclear Medicine technology techniques, including selecting the appropriate technical factors on an individual basis and understanding human anatomy well enough to consistently obtain the correct images

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations of the TDH, TJC, NMTCB, OSHA, ICANL and ACR

Calculates, orders/prepares and administers correct dosage of radio-pharmaceuticals and nonradioactive pharmaceuticals within the scope of practice and under the discretion of the attending radiologist

Assures operation of Nuclear Medicine equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer¿s recommendations and trouble-shooting equipment as required, calling in repairs when necessary

Maintains Nuclear Medicine supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies

Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements enforces adherence to requirements; advises management on needed actions

Operates all Nuclear Medicine Imaging equipment effectively in order to consistently and accurately recognize anatomical structures visualized during procedure

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart

Assures that an adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the Nuclear exam to be performed, and examines the requisition of the Nuclear study thoroughly to assure complete understanding of the desired physician study

Communicates effectively with patients about the Nuclear Medicine procedure in order to obtain supporting clinical information and to provide a high focus and safe customer environment

Assists with all QA processes for all Nuclear Medicine equipment

Fulfills continuing education and/or certification requirements necessary for the performance of the job

Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide Baylor Scott & White with the necessary documentation on such requirements

Explains Nuclear Medicine techniques and procedures and answers question thoroughly when assisting in the training of students as needed

Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner

Exam Performance:

Verifies the requisition/chart for valid written order, priority, date, ordering comments, physician's notes, precautions and patient consent forms

Assures that images and records are properly completed in RIS and PACS with patient identification data and appropriate labeling

Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria

Tracks imaging studies to complete in the appropriate Radiology Information System with the appropriate documentation for images obtained and forwards to the supervision physician for interpretation in a timely manner

Records and enters charges for supplies used

Uses proper sterile technique when setting up and performing procedures and semi-invasive procedures

Graduate Of A Formal Educational Program in Nuclear Medicine Technology Accredited By A Mechanism Acceptable To The American Registry Of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) Or Met The Requirements For Certification By The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
