The Director of Facilities Management and Plant Operations assumes complete responsibility and accountability for all functions and activities related to the maintenance and operations of the facilities at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. This position plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the activities of the Facilities Management department in addition to the construction, groundskeeping, and plant engineering to provide any services, repairs, and necessary maintenance to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the hospital and its departments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, budgetary requirements, and applicable local, state and federal building, safety, and regulatory codes.

The position requires knowledge and skill of healthcare facility maintenance and engineering best practices as well as the ability to manage and develop personnel, fiscal management, effective interpersonal relationships and communication, and maintenance of a safe work environment. The position also requires understanding, acceptance, and support of the philosophy, objectives, and policies of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and HCA’s FacilityGroup initiatives. The Director works with hospital leadership, the medical staff, and other healthcare professionals to promote best practices and a safe environment. Through effective communication skills, the Director is expected to lead staff to expected outcomes while exuding behavioral-based competencies. Director helps develop and support maintenance and plant operational plans for facility to include both hospital and corporate initiatives.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital – Forest campus – is a 340-bed acute care hospital that serves as the flagship of the three-campus Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals system. The Forest campus is a Level II Trauma Center, has a Level III neonatal ICU, accredited as a Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center, and offers other key services and programs, such as open-heart surgery, robotic surgery, kidney transplant, neuroscience, cancer center, and a dedicated women’s and children’s pavilion. The campus also has responsibility for two freestanding emergency departments – West Creek Emergency Center and Hanover Emergency Center.


• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field desired • Professional Engineer and/or Certified Hospital Engineer desired • Minimum 4-6 years acute care facility experience in general hospital maintenance including management of Plant Operations • Minimum 3 years previous Directorship experience in a hospital or equivalent plant services operation • Knowledge of OSHA as well as state and federal hazardous and biological waste regulations preferred • Must have ability to read and interpret blueprints • Must be familiar with applicable facility codes, state requirements, The Joint Commission standards, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) criterion, and International Building Code regulations relating to healthcare facilities • Must be knowledgeable of equipment specifications, inspection procedures and applicable codes • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical technology, budget preparation, laws and regulations relative to safety management, equipment management, security management and emergency preparedness. • Must have effective verbal and written communication in order to communicate a clear concise manner with staff, employees, patients, public, physicians and administration
