Summary:

Responsible for driving multiple andconcurrent product innovation initiatives through the management of thedevelopment process for assigned apparel, accessory and/or equipment products. Collaborate closely with all cross-functionalpartners and contract manufacturers to ensure that design integrity, quality,and target price are met/maintained and that products are developed withinestablished timelines. Influential inselection of development method and factory/LO and must remain true to thecreative directions of Design/Merchandising while considering manufacturabilityof the product.

Job generally involves a high degree of complexity inperforming non-recurring work situations. Operates from some establishedprocedures, but may develop policies and procedures to meet the needs of eachproject, especially in resolving style and manufacturing problems. Receivesminimal supervision; work is generally reviewed on a project or assignmentbasis over extended periods of time; decisions are made within prescribedcompany policy guidelines and constraints

Responsibilities:

  • Abilityto turn great ideas into great products in alignment with Mountain Hardwearbrand vision
  • Collaboratewith Designer and Technical Specialist to procure critical design informationrelated to the technical development requirements of a style or productincluding; material, trim color direction and style intent and tech packcreation
  • Shepherdprototype creation through pattern, sample, fit and grading processescollaborating closely with these groups to ensure specification and prototypesare as accurate as possible and represent design intention
  • Offersuggestions, changes and production perspectives to improve products and insuresuccessful commercialization of the product during manufacturing
  • Involvedor may be solely responsible for costing of product; must influence and directthe design to cost process
  • Establishparameters for style specifications, style measurements, quality standards andconstruction details
  • Identify/documentany construction details or sew methods that need to be communicated to thegarment factories
  • Communicateall style development to the appropriate liaison office keeping them abreast ofprogress and concerns
  • Workclosely with Sourcing, Planning, QualityAssurance, Material Research, LO Merchandising team to understand our contractmanufacturers capabilities and limitations
  • Workclosely with Sourcing and Material Research to identify and source appropriatematerials and trims for style development, keeping proposed garment country oforigin in mind at all times; assist with creating and updating seasonalmaterials and parts lists and color development lab dip needs
  • Reviewfactory prototypes for accuracy, quality and function. Communicate findings to the appropriatepersons including, Design / Merchandising, Sourcing, Quality Assurance and theLO Merchandising team
  • Communicatevia email and PDM system all style development information to the appropriateliaison office keeping them abreast of progress and changes.
  • Forthe assigned category; ensure that Bills of Materials, specifications,measurements and construction comments are input into database, maintained andaccurate. Manage prototype samples.
  • Createstrong cross-functional team interaction with all Product Creation team membersas well as manufacturers to ensure a coordinated and efficient process
  • Maintainpositive open lines of communication with all Mountain Hardwear management,staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow ofinformation and efficient operation of the organization
  • Maintainreports, records, files, samples pertaining to the process or styles
  • Mentoring,supervising and/or training of entry level developers
  • Stayup to date on current trends and understand the market and how it pertains to MountainHardwear; keep abreast of product sales information
  • Extensiveknowledge of fabrics and trims associated with the development process
  • Ensurequality is maintained to established Mountain Hardwear standards.
  • Actas an information resource for other developers
  • Performother related duties as assigned
  • Contactsare normally made with others inside and outside the organization. Internal contacts may include all members ofthe Product Creation Process and other personnel involved in the productionprocess. Interactions focus oninformation exchange and problem solving. Incumbent frequently initiates own contact with 30-50% being byphone/email and the remainder via face to face interaction.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensiveknowledge of garment construction methods and manufacturing sewing operations;including pattern making, grading and the marker making process. Possess strong knowledge of materials and functionalaspects of garments
  • Extensiveknowledge of fabrics and trims associated with the development process
  • Possessstrong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, meet stricttimelines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Possess strong written and verbalcommunication skills to deal with various levels of management and employeeswithin the organization as well as vendors and worldwide personnel. Ability to motivate individuals involved inthe production process. Ability tonegotiate production deadlines with individuals/departments involved.
  • Bachelor's degree specializing in relatedfield; course work in textiles, manufacturing or related desired
  • 6-8 yrs experience in Product Development, ProductEngineering, and/or Technical Design, with demonstrated innovationaccomplishments in the outerwear, outdoors or action sports industry
  • Prior experience working with InnovationCenters strongly desired
  • Workexperience directly related to outdoor products innovation and development is criticaland required
  • Experiencetraveling to and working independently with overseas factories strongly desired
