Join the Signal and Image Processing team that operates at the cutting edge of intravascular imaging and sensing technology.

As the Signal and Image Processing Engineer , you will work within the Philips Volcano Systems and Software R&D organization and contributes to all phases of bringing intravascular ultrasound and functional measurement technologies to market—from designing sensors to optimizing imaging pipelines to validating user image preferences.

You will work with a cross functional team to support the planning and execution of research, product development, and product sustaining.

Key areas of responsibilities (KARS) for this role include:

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype new image and signal processing algorithms to support intravascular ultrasound imaging and vascular functional measurement technologies

  • Support new product development projects and sustaining projects while adhering to quality control and regulatory procedures

  • Participate in clinical human and animal imaging studies for assessment and testing of new technologies and products

  • Maintain detailed documentation according to product development processes throughout all phases of research and development

  • Provide technical support to other departments for product marketing and regulatory submissions

  • Make recommendations for internal process improvements

Specific skill requirements for this role include:


  • Requires a Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) degree in biomedical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related field from an accredited university

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • At least 2 years of experience in signal processing, image analysis and processing, and algorithm development (coursework and internships may be acceptable

  • Knowledge of signal processing techniques and methodologies

  • Intermediate knowledge of MATLAB

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, regulated environment, with strict adherence to a quality system

  • Demonstrated skill in solving problems—technical and interpersonal

  • Adaptability in the face of ambiguous and evolving situations

  • Ability to express thoughts and communicate information with concise, structured writing

  • Track record of meeting deadlines and delivering results

  • Ability to communicate in English

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science degree in biomedical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related field from an accredited university

  • Familiarity with cardiovascular biology, physiology, and associated medical procedures, tools, and terminology

  • Expert knowledge of MATLAB

  • Experience with Labview, Python, or C++ Knowledge of techniques for algorithm acceleration using CPU and GPU optimization

  • Proficiency with laboratory hardware (oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators)

  • Medical imaging or medical device industry experience

  • Ultrasound or acoustics physics experience

  • Advanced technical knowledge and interest in one or more of these areas—image analysis, image processing, video processing, color theory, data mining, artificial intelligence, computer vision, computational photography, computer graphics, visualization, pipeline development, mobile computing, UI programming, software tool development, etc.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Position may involve mentoring interns or technician.

Travel Requirements:

  • Expected travel time will be minimal
