BASIC FUNCTION: * Support PCMC’s hallmarks of service excellence, patient advocacy and quality for all job responsibilities * Under general direction is responsible for “house supervision” when administrative leadership is not in the building. Coordinates patient care, facility, and resource issues, and is responsible for the day to day operation of the facility while on duty. SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES * Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care. As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees. * Champion PCMC’s mission, vision and values; comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the company. * Delegates and supervises personnel while maintaining quality patient care on all nursing units. * Function as a staff resource for patient care activities, hospital policy/procedure, conflict resolution, and staff education. * Implements and coordinates the house wide Disaster Plan and Chain of Command if required. * Ensures operation of equipment following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Providing staff education on new equipment. * Participates and/or leads intradepartmental committees as assigned. * Is able to perform all job functions outlined in the staff nurse position. * Maintains a thorough knowledge of nursing policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. SCOPE * Performs the following duties: * Oversees all unit operations while maintaining appropriate staffing ratios and adjusting staff as needed to cover call outs, low census, or specific unit needs. * Reports and documents time spent during shift: issues occurring with facts and outcomes, and rounding results of high risk patients to Administrator on Call and Department Leaders, before shift end. * Coordinates admissions and discharges, ensuring appropriate timely patient placement. * Provide assistance to Employee Health/Infection Control with Flu vaccine administration, respirator fit testing, potential hospital acquired infection monitoring, and other tasks in which employees need attended to. * Demonstrates ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority while maintaining a professional demeanor that emphasizes service excellence: * Initial liaison with Medical Staff issues and concerns * Patient advocate in situations where none is available * Employee mentor and guide throughout shift * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies, and maintaining appropriate national certifications. * Demonstrates leadership skills through effective delegation, time management, promoting team work, and use of appropriate conflict resolution skills. * Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. * Demonstrate clinical expertise and leadership ability. * Thorough understanding of hospital policy/procedures.


Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience: Three (3) to Five (5) years progressive clinical experience with at least one (1) year in ICU, and/or one (1) year charge nurse experience.

*Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: *Current Florida Nursing License, BLS, ACLS and PALS required

Other Minimum Qualifications: Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills including listening and team building. Is computer literate and has the ability to maintainaccurate and detailed reports and records. Remains current and can effectively use and teach Electronic Health Record; and can demonstrate a high level of critical thinking while applying appropriate skills.

In their role as an RN, in accordance with established regulations, policies, and procedures, Registered Nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care through the plan of care, and goal achievement by the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patients’ status. The RN also educates patients and the public about various health conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and their family members, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members. RN’s are to abide by and practice in accordance with the standards of care set forth by state board of nursing, nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
