The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership to skilled craftsmen, certified divers, and related technical support for the Aids to Navigation system. This system includes approximately 250 major buoys as well as numerous other buoys such as channel junctions, informational, hazard, and regulatory. May be designated as Park Dive Officer after obtaining National Park Service Dive Leadership Training and obtaining or possessing a nationally recognized Diving Instructor certification and is responsible for all dive operations.
*PHYSICAL EFFORT: * Requires stamina to sit for long periods of time while oeprating vehicles, equipment and boats. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry a variety of tools and equipment up to 75 pounds.
*WORK ENVIRONMENT: *Works inside and outside in all types of weather, with temperatures ranging from 100+ degrees in the summer, to zero degrees in the winter. Danger of serious injury exists during periods of high winds, from falling into the lake, working on ladders or scaffolding, etc. Is subject to injury from electrical shock or chemicals while performing necessary duties. Works with and around power driven tools, hand tools, paints, and other chemicals and is subject to the possibility of cuts, bruises, sprains, broken bones, and infectious diseases. Protective clothing and equipment are worn when warranted. Must be able to swim or wear flotation device while working near water.
*AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: *Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12 and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. QUALIFICATIONS**: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience as well as selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.
WG: Applicants must be physically fit and must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include: Specialized experience that demonstrates the ability to lead dive operations for lake bottom debris, trash removal, inspect under marinas, participate in rescue and recovery operations; use subsea sonar and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs); safety of power navigational operations, proper loading of cargo; maintain vessels by making minor adjustments and repairs as needed; fabricate and repair buoy, floating signs, lighted aids, shore markers, breakwaters, docks, boat pumpouts and boat slips and maintain records and reports; I can also construct, install and maintain anchoring systems;maintenance, repair/rehabilitation and construction of facilities; plan work schedules, demonstrate proper work methods and techniques using blueprints; expertise in different building trades, practices and building codes; operate 42-foot twin diesel and 32-foot pushing crafts.All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements in the occupational assessment questionnaire.
Requirements 1. If new to Federal Civil Service, you will be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year. 2. National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform. 3. Applicants must possess a valid state drivers license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid state drivers license is required.
