This is a seasonal position not to exceed 1039 hours.*The anticipated Entrance on Duty Date for this position is March 1, 2017.*


MAJOR DUTIES: As a Carpentry Worker , WG-4607-07, with the National Park Service, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs carpentry duties including framework, decking, doors and windows, using a variety of materials including timbers, beams , plywood, particle board, sheetrock, etc.
  • Installs partitions, doors, windows, shelving, counters and cabinets.
  • Measures, cuts, and installs woodwork using on-site measurements, verbal directions or from simple drawings and specifications.
  • Uses a wide variety of tools associated with the carpentry trade.
  • Drives pickup truck to transport tools and materials. Performs loading, unloading and material inventory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent works in shops, other buildings, and at construction and repair sites. Climbs on ladders and scaffolds. Work requires reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and other awkward positions. Lifts heavy objects such as rafters and beams. Carry objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves items with the assistance of lifting devices and other workers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works both inside and outside. Some work is performed in shop areas where the worker is exposed to moderate to high noise levels and dust. Exposed to hazards associated while working on scaffolds or ladders. Subject to cuts, bruises, slivers, and falling objects. Uses protective equipment such as earplugs, eye protection, breathing protection, gloves, and helmets.

QUALIFICATIONS**: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.

A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include:

Requirements 1. If new to Federal Civil Service, you will be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year. 2. National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.
