As the primary point of contact for the CEO and Executive Team at UIL, the Director, Human Resources will partner with the business(s) to understand the operational & organizational challenges and identify and deliver the supporting people agenda and HR projects to address the business needs, aligned with the AGR HR Operating Plan. In addition, this role has accountability for high-level consulting, problem diagnosis, and solution development in support of business goals and objectives; and developing partnerships across the business and with union leaders to deliver value-added service to the organization. This position has responsibility for the implementation of labor relations activities, collective bargaining agreements, employee relations activities within the local unit. This includes participating in development and execution of agreed strategies to ensure the effective development and oversight of labor and employee relations policies and practices.
As the key local HR representative, the successful candidate must be knowledgeable across HR disciplines, able to communicate and lead change in a positive, proactive manner. In addition, participation is expected in enterprise wide process improvement efforts and cross-functional teams to ensure processes are streamlined and meet organizational expectations.
Plays a key role and is a trusted advisor to business area leadership by developing partnerships and effective working relationships with all stakeholders including union leaders, influencing and challenging the team in the development and delivery of people priorities and achieving other company goals.
Achieve company objectives by developing an organization that has the ability to extract and understand employment, wage, financial, and operational data from SAP and other sources, perform financial calculations and other data analysis, and use this information to drive business decisions, respond to information requests, support bargaining, dispute resolution, and litigation.
Directs all activities related to employee and labor relations to ensure that an effective working relationship with bargaining unit employees is maintained and contract commitments are consistent with accepted practice and the Company’s overall strategic mission.
Directs the budget related to the above activities. Monitor assigned compliance areas to ensure compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
Identify and lead change, intervention and transformation efforts for the business.
Streamline and automate business processes to create a value-added HR organization that can effectively support the business. Works collaboratively with other areas of the HR group and global leaders to ensure coordination and implementation of key organizational projects and continuous improvement initiatives. Participates in enterprise wide process improvement efforts and cross-functional teams as required.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field. MBA or Masters of Science, Human Resources, preferred. Requires at least ten years of broad based human resource responsibility and specialized labor relations background in a mid to senior level position experience. SPHR Certification is preferred. Strong experience in leading/managing employee relations and labor relations required. Excellent analytical, leadership, organizational, presentation, written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience in managing HR Operations, recruitment and training functions preferred. Possess a deep understanding of state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to employee related issues. Strong HR functional expertise in HR systems and processes for employee relations/labor relations. Experience working with HR technology solutions and innovative approaches. Project management skills and strong operational focus. Extensive employee relations experience with a strong ability to relate well to others, listen effectively, and build rapport. Demonstrated ability and experience in analyzing and restructuring recruitment related activities, including systems and processes.
