The Benefits Analyst – Retirement Programs will be responsible for managing day-to-day administration and compliance activities related to defined benefit, defined contribution and deferred compensation plans. Participate in internal strategic planning to improve retirement benefits programs and processes. Administer contracts with vendors while being an employee advocate and ensuring and improving quality of service to internal/external customers. Develop and use electronic databases as tracking and reporting systems to meet requests, analyze usage/program, make recommendations and write business cases. Must be available to travel to all Avangrid locations as needed for team and employee meetings. May provide informational presentations to all levels of the Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assigned aspects of the day-to-day management of retirement programs for Avangrid employees/retirees. Develop positive vendor relationships associated with these programs.

  • Complete benefit calculations for terminations, retirements and requested estimates. Participate in activities to support the pension valuations and compliance.

  • Respond to questions from retirement plan participants and vendors. Maintain associated databases. Interface with vendors and trustees as required.

  • Assist with pension/benefit dispute resolution. Make recommendations regarding pension payment adjustments under the plan documents or vendor contracts or state/federal regulations.

  • Review plan documents, employee handbooks and other employee communications for compliance with design and/or legally required revisions.

  • Collect and analyze data as required to fulfill actuarial and other requests. Assist with drafting communications and assembling appropriate participant lists.

  • Recommend process/program improvements.

  • May be called upon for Storm Duty assignments or company - wide events.

  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS and SOX provisions. Respond to internal and external audit requests.


This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline, including but not limited to: Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, MIS or Behavioral Sciences. Requires at least five years of experience related to benefits administration and compliance. Demonstrated experience/knowledge of ERISA and PBGC requirements. Knowledge of related accounting requirements under IFRS and US GAAP preferred. Experience involving direct employee/retiree communications, labor contract administration, and project management. Familiarity with HR best practices for the administration of retirement plans and related compliance. Demonstrated ability to establish effective and objective working relationships with internal/external customers, vendors and stakeholders. Strong communication skills including written employee communications, presentation and conflict resolution skills. Comfort and confidence responding to a variety of questions/requests via in-person, phone and email. Ability to develop electronic tracking and reporting systems for a variety of program offerings, develop analysis and make recommendations necessary to meet program goals. Must be detail oriented and focused on quality outcomes.
