SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position protects the fiduciary interests of the Corporation through prompt investigation and administrative handling of personal injury and property damage claims brought by passengers, employees and others.
•Thoroughly investigates liability and damage aspects of accidents/incidents involving reports of personal injury and property damage.
•Establishes appropriate liability accruals/reserves and assures the claims database is accurate and current.
•Contacts claimants promptly, provides assistance, and monitors medical treatment.
•Evaluates claims and lawsuits with respect to liability and damages to determine corporate exposure.
•Accomplishes the fair and equitable disposition of claims and lawsuits by negotiating settlements with claimants and opposing counsel.
•Assists outside counsel in prosecution/defense of lawsuits filed by and against Amtrak.
•Maintains liaison with other departments to ensure effective communication and complete cooperation on claims related matters.
•Experience in investigation and/or personal injury claims
•Ability to pass required training, including Claims 101, RWP training and AAR Claims School.
•Demonstrated organizational skills.
•Good computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office a must.
•Familiarity with medical terminology and railroad operations.
•Must be a team player, able to work under stress and maintain professional composure.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Railroad Claims Investigation and Negotiation experience

•Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
