Position Description

The Director, Portfolio Management is primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of 10-12 senior leveraged loans extended to middle market portfolio companies owned primary by private equity sponsors and operating within the Healthcare industry. Individuals work with other senior members of the team to develop and implement a strategy for managing the credit risks involved with specific portfolio companies, in accordance with established corporate policies with a goal of minimizing loan losses. The Director, Portfolio Management is the primary interface between the borrower and CF and as such is responsible for balancing the needs and expectations of the borrower with policies, procedures and risk tolerances of Ally CF. Additionally, the role frequently interfaces with CF management, Ally Risk, referral sources, sponsor groups, bank syndicate members, management teams and Ally CF support functions, including credit approval, legal, loan administration and operations. The Director, Portfolio Management also plays an instrumental role in developing and training junior level staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Know the client and the client's business
  • Understand each assigned account and the primary drivers in each client business
  • Review/analyze interim financial statements, fiscal year-end audit reports and client projections on a timely basis
  • Cultivate/manage relationships with the borrowers and private equity sponsors
  • Prepare on a timely basis, monthly Trend Cards, quarterly Portfolio Reviews, Approval Requests/Amendments and other items required to manage the accounts.
  • Visit and communicate with clients as necessary
  • Minimize risk
  • Monitor compliance with loan documents
  • Ensure legal documentation is executed in accordance with credit approval parameters
  • Develop and implement client management strategy with minimal supervision from senior management
  • Manage operational aspects of client accounts throughout the loan cycle
  • Ensure that our operating system accurately reflects lending commitments, pricing data and other relevant information
  • Execute corporate governance responsibilities
  • Follow established policies/procedures
  • Prepare complete, accurate and clearly written credit approval memoranda
  • Manage the credit approval and portfolio review process
  • Identify New Business Opportunities
  • Notify management of any refinancing opportunities within the existing portfolio
  • Know private equity financing needs
  • Know/promote CF Products
  • Underwritings -- Prepare underwriting memorandum for loan modifications applicable to portfolio
  • Work closely with legal counsel to document amendments to the credit facility
  • Negotiate legal documentation
  • Expedite completion of conditions precedent/close loan
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements are properly adhered to
  • Manage/assist with loan syndication
  • Follow-up with appropriate parties to ensure that all post-closing requirements are delivered on a timely basis

  • Experience/Education
  • 10+ years of progressive portfolio management/underwriting experience with relevant focus in the leverage lending sector, with a focus on Healthcare preferred, but not required
  • Experience in any of the following: auditing, banking, commercial lending, underwriting, financial analysis, credit analysis, collateral management
  • Required BA in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field or any degree with relevant professional experience required
  • Master's degree preferred but not required
  • Completion of bank/finance company credit training program preferred, but not required

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Highly analytical, detail oriented with problem solving capability
  • Ability to work independently with demonstrated strong time management skills
  • Well-developed presentation and relationship building skills
  • High level of accountability and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Technical: Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint Access and financial forecast models
