The Markets Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury Department. As part of these duties, the Market Operations Monitoring and Analysis Function (MOMA) within the Markets Group executes transactions in the open market and conducts detailed analysis of financial market developments in support of the monetary policy and financial stability decision-making process.
The CMM staff currently has a variety of functions, including: monitor and analyze financial market developments for key stakeholders and policymakers within the Federal Reserve System and US Treasury Department; train new and experienced staff in the Markets Group; conduct outreach to institutional investors; assist senior Markets Group staff in market analysis and preparation for FOMC briefings. The CMM staff is currently looking to fill an associate/senior associate position responsible for facilitating the FOMC Desk Briefing process.
Lead and coordinate various senior-level market briefings, including the SOMA Manager’s briefing to the FOMC (‘Desk Briefing’), BIS workgroups, and the FRBNY Board of Directors presentations.
Coordinate and conduct relevant analysis / authorship for Desk Briefing process, including development of the Money Markets and Desk Operations section of the Desk Briefing, compilation of the FOMC briefing book, and other associated tasks. Will involve extensive interaction and collaboration with the SOMA
Manager and Deputy SOMA Manager, as well as other MOMA staffs. Will also require FOMC Class I access and read-only access for FOMC-related memos.
Brief senior Markets Group management on market or policy developments as needed, including at 7:55 AM.
In conjunction with the Analytical Coordinator unit and CMM management, facilitate and disseminate ad-hoc analytical requests from senior management, in particular as they relate to the Desk Briefing. Collaborate with staffs to assure results that are responsive to such requests.
Facilitate CMM’s inputs to the Tealbook (sections A and B). May include organizing and drafting preparatory notes, facilitating MOMA-wide analytical meetings, and leading feedback discussions with Board staff.
Participate in market monitoring rotations and relevant Desk analysis.
Serve as thought leader for formulating and guiding daily CMM market monitoring and Desk analysis, working closely with other CMM staff, and support the CMM SC in the quality assurance of Desk products.
Post-graduate degree in economics, finance or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience analyzing financial market developments and/or international policy issues.
Very strong analytical and coordination skills.
Deep familiarity with Markets Group analytical output.
Completion of CMM training or willingness to be trained in authoring Desk market monitoring products.
Familiarity with FRBNY Desk operations and the Survey of Primary Dealers / Survey of Market Participants is a plus.
Strong written and oral communication skills that will enable the candidate to convey their views to policymakers and senior management in a clear and concise manner.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact and collaborate effectively with peers, subordinates, senior management, and external parties.
