Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Bureau of Corrective Actions is hiring an Environmental Scientist III to work in the capacity of a Corrective Action/Leaking Underground Storage Tank case officer. Case officers in the Bureau of Corrective Actions oversee the implementation of soil and groundwater cleanups by property owners and other responsible parties after the release or discovery of contamination. Case officers review reports and work plans submitted by responsible parties and their environmental consultants, provide technical guidance, and ensure cleanups comply with environmental regulations. Other duties performed by case officers include fielding calls from the Spill Report Hotline, developing guidance for assessment and cleanup, maintaining public records of environmental cleanups, and sometimes directing State contractors to perform cleanup in the absence of responsible party activity.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
