Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in our Carson City DMV Administrative Services Division within the Revenue Recovery Section. Incumbents may perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Incumbents spend a majority of the time assisting customers over the phone, and perform a variety of complex transactions associated with debt recovery including a basic understanding of the statutes, laws, regulations and knowledge of agency policies and procedures involving the recovery of debt. This position is responsible for the receiving, reviewing and processing of returned unpaid items.
Communicate with debtors to resolve issues and/or follow up on the status of accounts. Reconcile data and resolve discrepancies. Receive and process appropriate documents to initiate debts, and prepare spreadsheets and letters relating to debt recovery. The applicant must be able to multitask and have an organized approach to all aspects of his/her work. Additionally the applicant must be reliable and accurate on the job.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of clerical experience, six months of which included accounts payable and/or accounts receivable responsibility; and the use of computer spreadsheets and a calculator by touch; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education supplemented by successful completion of a one-semester college course in bookkeeping or one year of high school bookkeeping and six months of clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Experience
This position requires work experience in a public assistance setting that included working with collection accounts or accounts receivable.
Microsoft Word Intermediate level
Microsoft Excel Intermediate level
Type at least 30 wpm.

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
