Responsibilities: The Contractor shall provide dental services of a nature and scope described in this Performance Based Work Statement (PBWS) in accordance with (IAW) the precepts of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Joint Commission – Hospital Accreditation Standards Manual, and the professional standards at the Dental Activity (DENTAC) where services are provided. All dental services shall be performed IAW ethical, professional, and technical standards.

Requirements: Be a graduate from a formal dental assistant program with a curriculum of a minimum of three (3) months in length plus at least six (6) months of clinical dental assisting experience OR have at least one (1) year of clinical dental assisting experience.

Dental assistants must have completed their training or have dental assisting experience within the past three (3) years. Dental Assistants must provide Certificates of Training in radiology during the pre-employment process, thus meeting compliance with 42 CFR 75, dated January 1986.

Dental Assistants must present a certification in Radiology that validates them having completed radiology courses on the following topics: radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation health, safety and protection, X-ray films and radiographic film quality, and radiographic techniques. The Certificate of Training may be obtained subsequent to a didactic/classroom education course or a didactic electronic course either of which result in a Certificate of Training; such as is available from the American Dental Association, the American Dental Assistant Association or other approved source. This requirement supersedes and replaces the current requirement. Diplomas – either currently held or obtained in the future – that are awarded subsequent to successful completion of a Certified Dental Assistant Program or a Registered Dental Hygiene Program will meet this requirement provided that the applicant can demonstrate that the curriculum leading to the diploma included radiology courses on the topics list.

All contract dental assistants shall be certified in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) that is approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) and reads Healthcare Provider Course in the subjects listed prior to beginning performance at the DENTAC. Certification shall be kept current throughout the term of the contract

The contractor shall be responsible for assuring all certifications remain current throughout the life of the contract
