The HR Advisor is part of a dynamic and fun HR team that is the first point of contact for managers, associates, and third parties. Reporting to the Manager, National HR Service Centre this position is responsible for performing a variety of specialized HR duties in support of multiple sectors. Serves as the first level of contact for all inquiries that require policies, procedures, and programs interpretation.- In addition, the HR Advisor is also the first responder for SpeakUp reports, HR investigations, disciplinary actions and other employee relations matters.
- Must be available to work between 9:00am - 5:00pm or 10am - 6pm M - F with some flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
Responds to telephone and email inquiries from all Associates regarding employee relations matters by:
Interpreting and explaining company policies, procedures, practices, and programs.
Advising and assisting managers, supervisors, associates on the interpretation and application of the provincial employment legislations.
Providing advice and guidance to managers and associates for unionized locations.
Providing guidance to managers in handling employee relations issues and in resolving complaints or disputes.
Investigating issues and providing assistance and/or resolution on the following: complaints about working conditions, disciplinary actions, alleged wrongful terminations, and discrimination allegations, or other HR related matters. Escalate to field HR when required.
Responsible for performing administrative tasks such as preparing offers, disciplines, layoffs and other letters/memos as required by operations.
Handle third party calls such as calls for employment verification, insurance claims, EAP referrals and inquiries from Service Canada.
Consult with the HR Service Centre management to obtain advice on problem resolution.- Escalate issues as appropriate to Field HR for resolution.
May work on special projects, both independently and as part of a team.
Bachelor-s degree in Human Resources, or related, or equivalent experience.
Three (3)+years of experience as an HR representative/generalist in a large company or supporting a line Business Unit, preferably in a unionized environment.-
CHRL certification preferred.
Strong computer skills including ability to perform HRIS queries (i.e. JD Edwards), generate reports, perform web-based research, and create case management files in HR software (i.e. Remedy).
Working knowledge of employment labor law in multiple provinces.--
