Job Summary:

Psychiatric assessment & crisis intervention, follow through with disposition in either admission to this facility or referral to other levels of care/facilities

Essential Job Functions:

o Follows CCBH & JCAHO protocols regarding screening, stabilization & disposition of all individuals presenting for Emergency Services o Completes all documentation regarding medical status & disposition in relation to the LifeLine Assessment o Documents all call information appropriately on call tracking sheets, scheduling appointments as appropriate o Performs psychiatric assessments for those presenting for Emergency Psychiatric Services to LifeLine, as well as psychiatric assessments within Coliseum Health System o Consults with psychiatrists as necessary regarding appropriate assessment disposition o Follows CCBH protocol for clinical/administration admission approvals o Follows all state requirements for involuntary admissions o Completes all admission paperwork, computer generated assessments & registrations as appropriate including obtaining physicians orders o Follows all CCBH, JCAHO, EMTALA & state/federal requirements for emergency screening & disposition of patients o Contacts managed care companies prn in non-emergent situations to initiate pre-certification for provision of psychiatric services o Participates in department’s PI, including initiates ideas and recommendations for department/improvements o Integrates ‘Caring Behaviors’ in daily interactions with patients, families, staff & MDs

Licensure/Certification/Qualification Required o Current GA RN License o CPR Certified o CPI Certified

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities o Strong communication skills in both oral & written format o Psychiatric or Emergency Room experience preferred o Understands & complies with federal guidelines for advanced directives/EMTALA/HIPPA o Ability to assist in commitments & legal requirements affiliated with state licensed Emergency Receiving Facility o Awareness of interface with CMC ER for medical clearance & transfer, if needed o Awareness of alternative treatment options (i.e., community resources, etc) o Understands both departmental PI as well as CCBH PI o Complies with state licensure laws & rules as defined by license held o Understands & utilizes the MD rotation roster for center-based assignments for admissions/referrals o Competent in admission process, voluntary & involuntary admission forms, MD Orders, insurance precert as needed o Awareness of & complies with center-based guidelines for ethical practice o Ability to identify areas of skill building or knowledge improvement for staff development & training, participates in development & training opportunities o Understands pre-certification process & its correct usage o Understands & explains Patient Rights & Responsibilities o Ability to perform vital signs o Understands & practices emergency medical screening of all patients o Ability to interview patient/guardian/family for presenting symptoms o Ability to interpret LifeLine Assessment for patient acuity/risk/care needs o Understands & utilizes center admission criteria o Ability to act as liaison between patient/family & healthcare team o Ability to interpret patient/family needs based on understanding of cultural diversity, age, religion o Ability to operate the TDD (Telephone Device for the Deaf) o Knowledge of EMTALA & application to LifeLine function o Implements ER ‘hand-off’ form & ER notification when patients are transferred from LifeLine to ER o Ability to state importance/implementation of Release of Information for Primary Care Physicians & referral sources o Ability to use Translation Line Interpretive Service o Ability to relay importance/value of LifeLine portion of ‘Medication Reconciliation Tool’ o Ability to perform correct Breathalyzer operation & monthly calibration per written manufacturer’s operating instructions & to document calibration results in LifeLine o Knowledge & ability to conduct mobile assessments, including nursing homes, assisted living & Coliseum Health System Medical ERs/ICUs/medical units using the same format & guidelines as assessments done on-site at CCBH o Ability to follow CCBH protocol for cleaning/storing Blood Pressure Cuff/Equipment after each patient use o Ability to complete and interpret Standardized LifeLine Triage Assessment o Possess the knowledge & skills necessary to perform the assessments as related to population appropriate care
