  • Overall Purpose of Job *

This role will be an experienced corporate finance professional, supporting primarily the General Industries (Retail, Engineering & Construction, Environmental Services, Transportation and Aerospace) lending business. Critical function of assessing risk factors associated with a credit and determining appropriate rating based on established policies and guidelines. The VP will be responsible for active credit management of a designated portfolio utilizing solid credit and analytical skills. Provide continuous oversight of a designated group of portfolio names monitoring for potential upgrading, downgrading and credit deterioration with the goal of maximizing net income and reducing credit costs.

  • Essential Functions *

Senior Portfolio Managers (VPs); are responsible for the functions listed below, to the highest degree of proficiency. Senior staff is responsible for the development of junior staff. Senior PM’s work under the direct supervision of a Managing Director, Director (manager) or a VP (team leader) and are responsible for Portfolio management and credit analysis skills are well developed and require limited direction or supervision in preparing a “finished product.”

Portfolio Management

  • Responsible for the management of a segment of an Industry vertical or investment and non-investment grade general corporate loan portfolios

  • Perform due diligence and evaluation of assigned loan portfolio on a regularly scheduled and ongoing basis. For assigned accounts, responsible for daily monitoring of company specific, market and economic factors, which may influence the internal, risk rating of borrowers

  • Prepare detailed credit analyses and required credit application according to policy including evaluation of loan purpose and structure, repayment sources, corporate, regulatory and industry risk, liquidity, asset protection, historical and projected operating performance and capital structure

  • Extensive modeling skill required for both credit application process and Quarterly Credit Watch presentations

  • Responsible for the coordination and communication of account information across various constituencies throughout the organization

  • Responsible for knowledge of country/risk factors on a macro level.

  • Responsible for knowledge of standard bank products including loans, letters of credit, derivatives, foreign exchange, securitization and leasing

  • Responsible for knowledge of particular industries and all current events in assigned portfolio utilizing internal and external sources

  • For assigned accounts, responsible for oversight of covenant compliance, facility closing due diligence, legal documentation and ongoing monitoring of credit conditions, if any

  • Prepare hedging recommendations

Advanced Credit/Underwriting Solutions

  • Work within deal team environment (with GRM (Global Relationship Management), Syndications & Mitsubishi UFJ Securities) leading the development and analyses of financing structures/strategies to support/identify M&A and Corporate re-capitalization opportunities

  • Prescreen proposed transactions to identify critical structural issues and risks, balancing institutional policy with business development needs

  • Utilize advanced portfolio management techniques to support GRM in the selection of assets, which will meet performance targets and fit the portfolio balance from a risk and return prospective

  • Work on structured credit transactions (including HIA facilities, securitizations, specialized leasing transactions, and up-tier proposals)

  • Understand and maintain base industry knowledge of industries represented in portfolio, including technical aspects, regulatory issues and unique credit product activity

  • In conjunction with GRM, present credit solutions to prospective and existing clients

Policy and Deal Advocacy

  • Coordinate with GRM and Credit to develop and update Industry underwriting guidelines and risk acceptance criteria as necessary

  • Shape and influence policy development by participating in committees, project teams, or transaction discussions

  • Communicate and negotiate with Credit Division (primarily CDA) for transaction approval, including final hold level strategies to ensure alignment of risk strategy and policy

  • Evaluate and establish appropriate ratings for transactions and correlate appropriate exposure level with regard to exposure on both a transaction and group level

  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements (i.e. JFSA, FRB, NYSBD and FDIC)

  • Ensure compliance with internal policy and procedural requirements (i.e. CEA, AOA, LOA and CODA) by understanding and adhering to USCB Operating Procedures, General Credit Policies for the Americas (GCP), Procedures for Credit Ratings and Credit Rules for BTMU Overseas Offices

  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent; MBA preferred

  • FINRA Licenses: Series 79 and 63 helpful

  • A minimum of 7 years credit related work-experience

  • Relevant industry experience is a decisive asset

  • A solid credit and analytical background with work experience as a Corporate Finance professional

  • Completion of formal credit-training program at a money center bank is preferred

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong financial modeling skills a must

  • A solid credit and analytical background

  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Word/Access/Excel

  • Able to work independently and under pressure
