Cardno Payroll Manager in Lone Tree, Colorado


Cardno is seeking a Payroll Manager in our Lone Tree, CO office. The Payroll Director will oversee all elements of Payroll Operations for multiple US divisions. This position will be located at our corporate services center in Lone Tree, Colorado. The Payroll Director provides strategic direction, implements best practices and sets operational policies and procedures. This dynamic leader will have the ability to communicate with all levels of internal customers, and will lead the effort to build, maintain and motivate a highly effective payroll team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise payroll staff and oversee multi-state payroll processes and procedures including benefits and taxes

  • Develop relationships with internal and external auditors and state and federal agencies

  • Subject matter expert for all elements of payroll for divisions located throughout the US to ensure we adhere to company policy, federal and state regulations

  • Follow requirements for accurate and timely filing of federal and state taxes

  • Handle any UltiPro, BST, Workday and ADP updates to ensure payroll process requirements are current

  • Oversee any payroll service tasks for new acquisitions

  • Maintain training requirements for staff on all software, policies and procedures

  • Design and implement short-term and long-term strategies for continuous improvement in payroll operations

  • Prepare relevant management reports regarding gross payroll, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.

  • Work effectively with HR and accounting


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of payroll experience including prevailing wage and supporting a mx of union / non-union payrolls

  • Previous experience in running a global payroll

  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and allocate resources to meet goals in a fast paced environment

  • Extensive tax knowledge

  • ADP Ev5 experience Strongly preferred

  • Global and regional payroll consolidation experience

  • Experience working in a central services environment

  • Working knowledge of payroll integration with financial systems, GL entries, etc.

  • Knowledge of time reporting

  • Knowledge of benefits, deductions and complex calculations

  • Experience with managing 3rd party vendors

  • Ability to provide executive level status updates, reports and presentations

  • Experience managing a team of direct reports

  • Effective oral, written skills and interpersonal communication skills with a client service focus

  • 5+ years usage of Microsoft software programs

  • CPP is required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field highly preferred

  • BST, Ultimate Software and Workday experience strongly desired
