Job Description The Engineering Technician II (ETII) performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations. Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments; technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may also be reviewed in progress. Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts; may service or repair simple instruments or equipment.

Performs a combination of duties as:

-- Conducts a variety of tests using established methods.

--Prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.

--Extracts engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources; processes the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry; presents the data in prescribed form

--Performs a variety of tasks to include the fabrication and assembly of various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.

-- Installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, high density cable connectors

--Assembling cable harnesses,

--Soldering with low voltage soldering devices, coaxial connectors

--Assembling small mechanical parts per fabrication/assembly drawings

The ETII receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher level technician, and work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices.

Work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.

Employees must be able to:

--Work in high heat spaces

--Climb shipyard dry dock stairs and climb up and down ladders and

--Crawl through hatches to access all areas of the ship

--Work in the kneeing position and layout of cable runs that are under false decking.

--Carry 50lbs. The employee can be lifting 25lbs to 50lbs 5 – 10% of the day, carrying 10 to 40lbs throughout the ship 25 to 50% of the day or pushing and pulling while running cable or installing equipment up to 80% of the day.

--The employee will be on their feet in a standing, crouching or walking position up to 90% of the day.

Required Skills --Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in a related field.

--Applicant may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty, or military training may apply.

--Applicant must be willing to work second or thirds shift as needed.

-- Applicant must be willing to work both in laboratory and Ship/Shipyard locations.

--Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA to include009-22 & 009-73. Also familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and AIT installation.

-- Applicants must be certified in “Multi-pin” Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA) and Connector Fabrication (copper).

--Applicants also must be willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.

--Applicants must successfully undergo a background investigation

--This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens

--Travel may be required up to 30-50% of the time. Applicant must be willing to travel to various work sites such as San Diego CA, Everett WA, Pearl Harbor HI, Mayport FL & Yokosuka Japan.

Preferred experience:

--2 years of experience on building/ fabricating Copper, Coax, and CAT 5/6e, cables.

--Fiber Certification

--Forklift experience/certification
