General Maintenance Technician II w/ Certification/License primary responsibility includes performing repairs/preventative maintenance on equipment. Other duties include repair and installation of plumbing fixtures; inspection/testing, repair and/or replacement of electrical power circuits and equipment; and running of emergency power generator to ensure proper operation. The Technician also performs general maintenance duties in and around the buildings of the hospital complex.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.
Perform special assignments as needed/requested.
Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients.
Performs routine preventative maintenance, lubrication, cleaning of HVAC.
Inspects equipment while in operation and makes minor repairs and/or adjustments when necessary.
Inspects the equipment and operations to insure that efficient operation in maintained.
Checks HVAC’s observing meters, gauges, adjusting valves and other controls to regulate flow, velocity and air volume.
Checks mechanical equipment, such as compressors, pumps, steam boilers, during preventative maintenance service.
Repair and/or replace vacuum, oxygen, airlines and compressors.
Repairs and installs plumbing fixtures such as: sinks, toilets, valves, faucets, water heater, hot and cold water piping, sewer piping and steam piping.
Inspects and tests electrical power circuits and equipment; examines and tests elements of systems, such as distribution panels, controls, circuit breakers and motors in order to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires or loose connections.
Repair and/or replace all mechanical or electrical components as necessary and complete documentation.
Complete all necessary information for equipment inclusion and history.
Perform a variety of general maintenance duties in and around the buildings of the hospital complex and to assist other associates in completing their tasks.
Runs emergency power generator on full load to ensure proper operation in case of emergency.
Any other responsibilities designated by the Facilities Department Leadership.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Education Graduate of a commercial technical school required to possess one of the below listed certifications.
Must possess one of the following State of Texas issued:
HVAC license or
Journeyman’s Electricians License or
Plumbing license or
Locksmith certification or
Boiler certification or
Plant Operator certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of hospital experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, Boiler Plant Operation or Key and Lock installation and repair.
Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance, supervision, and directions by the Director of Plant Operations. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently, and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Patient Population Served: Employees in this position must be able to respond to maintenance needs in departments serving neonate/infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age categories. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to work in areas providing care to patients in these age categories. The skills and knowledge need to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
