POSITION DESCRIPTION: Software Developer I designs, develops, and supports one or more software systems or integrations. The individual in this role has a solid grasp of object oriented design and development as well as strong problem solving and logic skills. This position gets direction on technology from the IT Manager and direction on requirements from the Scrum Master of the project team. This position is located on site in Lenexa, KS.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
As part of a team, decompose development work into tasks and estimate effort.
Following task list of team-defined goals
Write and debug object oriented and procedure code
Write and debug SQL or web service proxy code using
Write and update system documentation
Resolve and document issues in support and project tracking systems
Deliver high quality, rigorously tested systems that conform to user acceptance criteria.
Must be able to reverse engineer and refactor applications previously developed for the purpose of adding functionality, implementing bug fixes, or automated unit testing
Able to communicate progress and plan with team daily
Learn and utilize software engineering best practices
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:
Associate’s Degree from accredited college or university in Computer Science or Information Systems; or relevant and equivalent work experience
Prior development experience using C# .NET to design and develop web applications and/or web services a plus
Basic to Intermediate knowledge in one or all of the following:
NET Web Services or WCF Services
Application development with ASP.NET WebForms or MVC
Basic to Intermediate knowledge of the .Net Framework
Basic knowledge of SQL, Transact-SQL, and/or PL-SQL to include writing queries, functions, views, and procedures in support of application development
Basic understanding of Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle Database Server
Basic understanding of relational database analysis, design, and normal forms
Familiarity with design patterns
Practical understanding of object oriented design
Agile development experience a plus
Test Driven Development/Unit Testing Experience a plus
Team City or Continuous Integration a plus
Previous experience in the higher education industry a plus
Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public).
Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Able to effectively present information to executive management, faculty, staff, students, and/or board of directors.
Reasoning Ability:Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
