UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEVADA Shared Governance and Magnet Coordinator in Las Vegas, Nevada


With the assistance and collaboration of the UMC Shared Leadership Steering Committee, provides the necessary planning, collaboration, and operational oversight to achieve critical strategic outcomes across the clinical continuum. Serves as the Magnet advisor to the nursing leadership team, serves on the Magnet Steering committee, and functions as a liaison to hospital departments and consultative resource for administration, nursing, non-nursing employees, physicians, and community. Promotes nursing excellence, recognition, empowerment through Shared Decision Making and professional development of nurses.

Job Requirement:

Education/Experience: Equivalent a Master's Degree in Nursing and possess a minimum of three (3) years experience in the delivery of nursing care in an acute care setting, including both formal and informal experiences in a shared governance model and participating in a successful Magnet Journey.

Licensing/Certification Requirements: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements:

Knowledge of: AACN requirements and process for obtaining both Pathways to Excellence and Magnet designations; group dynamics and change management; engaging front line staff in transforming culture and process; theory and necessary elements of shared governance models that support AACN designation work; elevating clinical practice through research evidence-based clinical processes and policy, and the using appropriate nursing theory and models to ensure stellar performance in clinical, professional, and experience metrics; utilizing data successfully to communicate outcomes and areas for improvement; collaborating and communicating key points successfully on behalf of the CNO; developing and executing implementation plans; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in: AACN standards and processes for obtaining both Pathways to Excellence and Magnet designations; serving as leader, change agent, and coach to the UMC Shared Governance Steering Committee; collaborating with consultants and other stakeholders in implementing projects and shared governance at UMC; developing pragmatic models for shared governance and professional practice, articulating the importance and positive benefits of adopting models; change management and large scale change implementation; collecting, organizing, and articulating UMC stories toward Magnet; defining UMC clinical culture; monitoring, collecting, managing, articulating, and using data effectively to measure outcomes against goals; project management; developing budgets; creating spreadsheets, presentations, and use other computer platforms; servant leadership style that engages employees and motivates them to participate in the journeys to our end goals; understanding of shared leadership and ability to define a successful model for UMC; assisting other leaders in working successfully within a shared leadership and shared decision-making environment; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or an eligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. High energy and the ability to walk moderate distances and participate in moderate physical activity.
