UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEVADA Clinical Regulatory Readiness & Compliance Coordinator - Internal Only in Las Vegas, Nevada


Works in collaboration and partnership with hospital Clinical Quality and Performance Improvement Department to ensure that the Nursing Department is in a state of ongoing readiness. Provides collaboration, direction, monitoring, and active operational oversight and intervention to clinical leadership and staff across the nursing continuum regarding Joint Commission Accreditation, CMS regulatory standards, state regulatory standards and legal statutes governing healthcare entities, healthcare compliance standards.

Job Requirement:

Education/Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience in the healthcare industry performing quality, performance improvement, or risk related work. Licensure/Certification Requirements: None

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements:

Knowledge of: Joint Commission standards and processes; state and federal statutes, regulations, and reporting requirements; public reported data; analyzing; internal policies and practices governing safety, quality, risk, and regulatory readiness; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; hazardous material management; regulatory requirements in special clinical areas; emergency response policies and processes; Lean methodology and applying Lean techniques for performance improvement and waste reduction in various clinical settings; implementing a root cause analysis; developing corrective plans of action; working within on-line regulatory sites (CMS, Joint Commission); developing a just culture; performing risk assessments; managing near miss and sentinel events.

Skill in: Regulatory, risk, and federal and state standards; performing risk assessments; developing plans of action (readiness, risk mitigation, and quality and safety); obtaining, assessing, interpreting, and communicating quality, safety, compliance, and risk data; identifying areas of concern, stratifies the risk, negative trends, setting priorities for action; developing annual readiness and compliance plans specific to regulatory requirements, safety, risk, and quality; developing effective ongoing implementation tactics; monitoring nursing quality and risk measures; monitors ongoing readiness level; creating policies, processes, communication tools, and toolkits; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or an eligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
