Spirit AeroSystems Equipment Maintenance Technician in Kinston, North Carolina


Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Uses hand and power tools. Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment. Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications. Move and place in correct position heavy equipment, real property and installed property in accordance with established methods. Prepare machine foundations, assemble structures and install floor and overhead conveying equipment. Accomplish all necessary rigging. The Company will provide appropriate assistance in job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions including the following:1. Obtain and deliver material and equipment necessary to support plant maintenance and repair. 2. Work from diagrams, prints, specifications or verbal orders. 3. Use hand tools, powered tools and shop equipment. 4. Perform disassembly and assembly operations necessary to accomplish assignment. 5. Enter and retrieve data from the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and order parts required to accomplish the tasks (except as relates to inventory, store, record, issue and any other duties related to material support technician.) In addition, each employee may be asked, on occasion, to complete other duties and responsibilities as required by Spirit leadership. Training and certification will be provided for the additional work when required.


Qualifying Skills

  1. Diagnose failures, determine parts and material requirements, and perform repairs as required to resume operation on production equipment.

  2. Attend seminars, training, and educational activities as directed as well as on-the-job participation/demonstrations by peers in order to improve maintenance technical capacity.

  3. Train other employees in same job classification or lower as requested or required.

  4. Participate in Maintenance Department project implementation and on process improvement teams.

  5. Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings.

  6. Basic knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, mechanics, hydraulics, and structural maintenance.

  7. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.

  8. Ability to operate computers and maintenance diagnostics equipment including analog and digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, pyrometers, photo-tachometer, ultrasonic leak detectors, etc.

  9. Repair or replace control devices such as switches, optical sensors, motor starters.

  10. Ability to work in confined areas and high places.

  11. Use precision alignment and measuring instruments.

  12. Experience with machine assembly, machine builds, installations, mechanical, general machine shop tools, electrical wiring, bearings and alignment techniques

  13. Must have excellent analytical skills and a demonstrated understanding of electrical and mechanical machine controls and drive systems.

  14. Enter and retrieve data from the CMMS system, and order parts required to accomplish the tasks.

  15. Maintain required personal certifications.

  16. The following skills are preferred:

  • PLC knowledge and experience.

  • Experience with MAXIMO & SAP.

  • Experience with Siemens & Fanuc CNC controls

  • Experience operating plant equipment to fabricate, cut, weld, and repair machine parts.

  1. Perform root/cause analysis in support of reliability processes, and collaborate with vendors, engineering, customers, other crafts and management to solve equipment problems and develop corrective action.

  2. Ability to communicate effectively with company employees and all levels of management.

  3. Must have a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
