To learn more about us, visit RESPONSIBILITIES: This position provides transmission and distribution related engineering services required by WVPA and its Member Cooperatives, ensures proper coordination of protection systems owned by WVPA, Member Cooperatives, and interconnected Transmission Owners, develops and maintains a Protection System Program for WVPA-owned facilities, and supports corporate efforts to ensure ongoing compliance with NERC/Regional Reliability Organization Reliability Standards, Guidelines, and Criteria. The Distribution and Protection Engineer will be responsible for: Designs and/or supervises the design of distribution facilities including preparing specifications, the bidding and selection processes, and construction management. Provides engineering services for Member Cooperatives on various distribution matters including borrowers environmental reports, distribution studies, coordination studies, power quality studies, general distribution planning, AutoCAD services, specifications and compliance, equipment specification and purchase, co- generation/small power production, cost estimating, budget preparation, permitting, public hearings, landscaping, relay and control design and protection. Design, install, test, and maintain WVPA-owned transmission/distribution protection systems. Collaborate with WVPA and Member Cooperative personnel, interconnected transmission owners, and reliability organizations in the specification, coordination, installation, maintenance, testing, and operational analyses of protection system equipment. Maintain accurate records of configurations, settings, testing, and maintenance performed on protection system equipment. Page 1 Position Specification Distribution and Protection Engineer Plan, schedule, and oversee all required protection system testing and maintenance as needed to comply with all applicable NERC Reliability Standards/Criteria, Technical Reference Documents, Guidelines, and other regulatory requirements. Maintain sufficient records to ensure that WVPA efforts meet said compliance requirements. Analyzes protection system operations and misoperations, ensuring that corrective actions are completed when necessary. Determines the need for and ensures the provision of Distribution facilities sufficient to satisfy Wabash Valley Power Policies, Power Supply Agreements, and Transmission Agreements. Procures land and easements for Wabash Valley's Distribution construction projects, and assists the general counsel in the completion and recording of the documentation required for said easements. Provides support to the Manager of Delivery Services on matters involving delivery point requirements and any associated Distribution facilities including an engineering review of current and any future Wabash Valley Transmission & Distribution Agreements with power suppliers, transmission owners, and distributed generation project owners. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Engineering, with background in transmission and/or generation protection system design and maintenance. Minimum ten (10) years of experience in industry, electrical engineering; utility experience required. AutoCAD experience required. Practical substation, transmission and distribution (12 kV) experience required. Professional Engineer certification required.
