    West Houston Medical Center is currently looking for a Nurse Manager for their Wound Care Center.

    Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Director, the Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for all functions of the Wound Healing Center. In collaboration with the Director and members of the medical staff, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of quality of patient care services provided in the department by all levels of practitioners. The nurse manager in the assigned unit:

  • Initiates, guides, and directs the coordination of all functions for the assigned unit.

  • Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.

  • Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided in the assigned unit

  • Makes decisions regarding activities within the department based on Hospital Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Department of Nursing Standards in collaboration with the unit Director.

  • Monitors all quality standards for compliance on a daily basis.

  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and terminating staff as necessary. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

    o Responsible and accountable for nursing care delivered on the unit, based on the Nursing Process—assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

    o Integrates service into the organization’s primary functions.

    o Responsible for coordinating and integrating interdepartmental and intradepartmental services.

    o Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide care and treatment.

    o Determines and ensures the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, demonstrated and improved on an ongoing basis.

    o Completes yearly performance evaluations for all staff at the Wound Healing Center.

    o Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.

    o Responsible for orienting and providing in-service training and continuing education for all persons in the department.

    o Supports the mission, goals and objectives of the hospital.

    o Maintains and improves own nursing knowledge.

    o Maintains JCAHO standards and stays up to date on guidelines for other regulatory agencies.

    o Follows up in a timely manner in response to all patient/family concerns, including communication with the Administrator-on-site.

    o Participates in selecting sources for needed services not provided by the department or the organization.

    o Completes other activities as assigned

  • Assists nurse director in the supervision of department operations, seeking opportunities to improve quality

  • Demonstrates proficiency knowledge regarding operation of patient-related equipment

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performance of job-related technical skills

  • Consistently attends and actively participates in unit meetings

  • Participates of Nursing service committees and or unit /projects

  • Accountable for maintaining and improving own professional nursing knowledge and competence through establishment of personal goals and continuous self-development

  • Ensures nursing staff is adequately supervised and assigned tasks that match their competencies

  • Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees

  • Ensures personal safety and the safety of patients and visitors

  • Includes principles of infection control in nursing care implementation

  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety goals

  • Demonstrates knowledge of core measures.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; B.S.N. preferred. B. Education requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of all patients admitted to the unit: • Nutrition, i.e. alteration in nutrition, less than body requirements • Hazards of immobility, i.e. impaired physical mobility • Impaired verbal communication or special communication needs • Grieving process • Alteration in elimination • Self-care deficit • Sleep pattern disturbance • Activity intolerance • Safety awareness LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED A. Current licensure in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse. B. Minimum of three years clinical experience in area of specialty with an emphasis on leadership and management. C. Current verification of competency in BLS is required. D. Computer skills preferred. E. Certificates as requested by department
