This recruitment will be used to fill a seasonal appointment. This appointment is not to exceed 1039 hours in a twelve month period, although positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.


Maintains the park's facilities through the performance of carpentry, painting, masonry, concrete, plumbing, in addition to all assigned preventative and routine maintenance. Light welding and metal work may be performed. Incumbent will haul materials and operate machinery such as a Bobcat loader with attachments, Kubota tractor, and forklift on a limited basis. Incumbent will assist with light roadway repairs, culvert and ditch maintenance, fence and sign repair and installation. Incumbent will perform routine vehicle maintenance and perform small mechanical repairs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.**

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors. Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. **

AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION:Colorado National Monument, located on the Western Slope of Colorado, preserves one of the grandest landscapes of the American West. Historic Rim Rock Drive offers 23 miles of breathtaking panoramic views and 19 overlooks in the monument. More than 43 miles of trails lead across mesa tops and to spectacular overlooks and back country canyons. The monument has more than 700,000 visitors annually and it provides many recreational uses for them such as bicycling along Rim Rock Drive, camping in the 80-site campground, hiking, rock climbing, and picnicking. The monument is in close proximity to the towns of Fruita (7 miles) and Grand Junction (17 miles). The surrounding area has a population of approximately 150,000 people. Most community and commercial facilities are located in Grand Junction, including Mesa State College, several hospitals, shopping facilities and churches. The climate is dry, high desert with summer daytime temperatures ranging from 85 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and winter daytime temperatures ranging from 30 to 45 degrees. Winter overnight lows occasionally drop below zero.

QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as well as selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.

Requirements1.National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform. 2. Applicants must possess a valid state drivers license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid state drivers license is required. 3. Employees on temporary appointments may be eligible for health benefits through the Federal Employees Health Benefits program and, if eligible, will receive the same government contribution as full-time permanent employees. To be eligible for consideration, temporary employees working full-time or part-time must be on appointments expected to last at least 90 days, or be on an intermittent work schedule and expected to work 130 hours per month for at least 90 days. Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings. After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
