SC Department of Public Safety Revenue Officer A - Florence in Florence County, South Carolina
This is the entry level position for the Revenue Officer Career Development Plan for the Department of Revenue. Employee works under limited supervision and is responsible for collection of debts due the state and enforcement of tax laws, with a focus on the security of taxpayer data.
Collects, resolves debt, and enforces tax laws in routine cases through research and taxpayer contact/follow-up. Assists in prioritizing accounts in collection status by managing assigned case load and determining urgency of action using an established selection criteria. Prepares and submits required reports with guidance form experienced Revenue Officers.
Assists in providing taxpayer assistance in-person and by telephone to include basic MyDORWAY assistance and referrals, SCDOR processing, filing basic returns, adjusting/issuing assessments and liens, and writing cash receipts. Assists in performing field inspections of Sales, COD, and Admissions Licenses and assists with writing violations to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations. Develops, updates, and reviews section procedures. Makes suggestions/recommendations to improve exiting practices and processes. Minimum and Additional Requirements: A bachelor's degree. - Due to the field work involved with this position, you must have a valid Driver's License and your own reliable transportation; mileage reimbursement will be provided.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a business related field and nine (9) semester hours of accounting and/or computer courses. Ability to schedule work assignments, make personal contact with taxpayers/customers, and prioritize accounts in collection status. Ability to control emotions and maintain consistent performance under pressure. Must project professional demeanor and appearance, and promote the team concept to support DOR values, goals, and mission statements. Additional Comments: SCDOR employees are required to be in compliance with all SCDOR tax requirements and are subject to a National Criminal Background Check to include fingerprinting.
