HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Nurse Practitioner Intensive Care Unit (RN)/ 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.M-F in El Paso, Texas
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the Supervision of the Chief Medical Officer the Nurse Practitioner will provide holistic, individualized patient care in response to identified need. Additional functions will be performed in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.
Works is an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration and referral.
Performs focused or comprehensive initial assessments that the treating physician may use as references as the physician completes the history and physical
Conducts rounds, in addition to physician rounds, develop and implement patient management plans and record progress notes.
Orders and/or performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Monitors the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and adjusts treatment
Assemble and analyze data to facilitate both decision-making and patient throughput.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in inter disciplinary rounds for patient care and discharge to facilitate continuity of care.
Prepares a discharge summary on behalf of the treating physician
Prescribes prescriptions for patients under prescriptive authority
Maintains legible, accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment outcomes, education, referrals and consultations consistent with NCOA (National Committee of Quality Assurance), The Joint Commission and state regulatory standards
Actively participate in and support quality and outcomes management initiatives.
Assist with identification of present on Admission, (POA) conditions and ensure physician documentation.
Educates patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications
Provide educational programs for employees, physicians or community groups.
Serve as a resource for facility’s employees in the provision of patient care by providing expert advice and guidance.
Support facility in ensuring compliance with the Joint Commission, state licensure, CMS and other regulatory agency requirements.

Job Specific: Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately)
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing –Required
Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
Experience in acute care and management of acute care patients preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: (list required and preferred separately)
Current Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Current certification in BCLS--Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support –Required. Must obtain within 6 months of hire.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: (list required and preferred separately)
Minimum of five years experience in Nurse Practitioner role preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills required
Effective leadership, teaching, research and communication skills required.
Advanced physical assessment and critical thinking skills required.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments required.
Ability to assess medical conditions and interpret findings required.
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary team required.
