*FACILITY DESCRIPTION:* Las Palmas Medical Center is a Level III Trauma, 186-private patient room, full service acute care hospital. Las Palmas Medical Center offers comprehensive healthcare and provides leading-edge technologies. Our Lifecare Center offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, as well as our fully equipped fitness and wellness center in one convenient location. We also house the region’s only Kidney Transplant Center.

We are located on the Westside of El Paso, Texas close to the University of Texas El Paso campus. We provide exceptional patient care services to the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities, as well as Southern New Mexico and West Texas Regions.

*POSITION SUMMARY: * Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant implements the plan of care to include developmental deficits, activities of daily living, work conditioning, range of motion, coordination, balance endurance, cognition, and implementing exercise programs to restore function and increase strength.

*POPULATION SERVED: * Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: cardiac/cardiovascular, neurology, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary, CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, soft tissue injuries, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Treats Patients: Selects and applies appropriate recreational therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of clinical practice. Selects and utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment program when indicated, in order to maximize patient progress. 2. Documentation: Completes documentation on the same day that treatment was rendered. Documents on all appropriate forms. Documentation is accurate and meets generally accepted professional standards. 3. Supervision: Appropriately directs the activities of PT/OT technicians, students and volunteers. Ensures that treatment plans and documentation are carried out correctly by PTA's, PT/OT technicians (cannot document), and students. Initiates corrective action (in conjunction with supervisor) when individuals supervised fall below standards. 4. Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, and recommendations. 5. Quality: Assists the clinical supervisor with implementation of new programs as needed. Involved with Quality Assessment and Improvement Plan. 6. Department compliance: complies with department Policy and Procedures, Safety/Infection Control Plans, OSHA, guidelines Employee Handbook and standards of regulatory bodies (JCAHO, Medicare, CARF, etc) 7. Demonstrates Customer Service/Service Plus principles and behaviors appropriately. 8. Other duties as assigned.

*REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS* Board Certified by the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners BCLS

*PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology. 1-2 years experience in an inpatient rehab setting preferred Bilingual in English/Spanish
