NOTE: Physicians employed by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) are paid commensurate with education, experience and qualifications, using VA's market-based physician pay system. Candidate's education and experience will be reviewed by a Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

This position will remain open until filled applicants will be sent forward every two weeks to service line manager beginning 07/27/2016.


The Urgent Care Physician (UCP) will be responsible for the overall medical care of patients to the Urgent Care Center at the Dublin VAMC. This position is primarily an Urgent Care position, but the incumbent may work as a backup hospitalist and backup Primary Care Provider (PCP). He/she is to ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with the standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program. He/she is to ensure appropriate use of the available resources, and will be responsible for the state-of-the-art standards of care. He/she collaborates with other Services as appropriate.

The UCP may be asked to complete projects related to his/her area of specialty, expertise and interests, relevant to VA directives and policies. Projects would likely be directly related to his/her training, but may occasionally be indirectly related to the practice of the Urgent Care, all within the scope of the medicine department. An example of that would be leading administrative or clinical teams for VA, and providing other project leaderships as appropriate.

The UCP accomplishes health care delivery mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs in general. Services provided are subject to close scrutiny by Congressional interests, service organizations, the general public and the media.

Tour of Duty: Shifts are variable and based on 10-hour shifts, may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

(1)Citizen of the United States.

(2) Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the the degree was granted. (schools including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full unrestricted licensure. (schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association.)

(3)Completed three year residency, or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of VA for the year in which it was completed.

(4) Licensure and Registration, Current, full and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must and maintain current registration.

(5) Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

(6) Board certification by the appropriate American Board for internal medicine/family practice, emergency medicine, doctor of osteopathy with AMA or AOA is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion, and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be an occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background seurity investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
