Toyota's Electronics System Department is looking for a highly motivated and qualified Automated Driving Development & Test Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and integrate software components into Toyota's prototype vehicles, validate those components through simulation, lab, and vehicle tests, maintain and update those components, report findings and document procedures, and make recommendations to all Toyota stakeholders.


  • Develop, implement and validate software components for Toyota's prototype vehicles

  • Plan and execute vehicle-level system and application validation tests; leading both vehicle data collection and reporting

  • Demonstrate working prototypes (system and full-vehicle) to upper Toyota management

  • Document technical procedures related to software and integration

  • Independently maintain software development process, structure, libraries, and laboratories (both simulation and test vehicle)

  • Work with stakeholders to integrate software solutions for automated driving systems to existing United States hardware and infrastructure (cellular communications, digital mapping)

  • Identify North American concepts, functional and performance requirements for next-generation Automated Driving systems

A successful candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a major in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Multiple projects leading system (hardware and software) functionality testing with test planning and execution

  • Documented experience with unit, integration, and functional software testing

  • Multiple projects leading software design, development and implementation using C , Linux, Java, UML, or Python

  • Multiple examples of oral and written presentations to report technical accomplishments related to system (software and hardware) design

A successful candidate may have:

  • A Master of Science degree

  • Experience with localization, map-building, and path planning algorithms for ground vehicles

  • Experience with prototype driving support systems (e.g., adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist)

  • Hands-on experience integrating radars (77GHz, 24GHz), cameras (mono, stereo), Global Positioning System (GPS), digital maps, ultrasonic, lidars, or wireless communication (DSRC, Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular) technologies

  • Experience in CAN, Flexray, Ethernet, LIN, OBDII, and other vehicular networking protocols

  • Experience in MATLAB, Simulink, DSpace, and Vector tools
