Union County College PT Chemistry Lab Coordinator (DAY hours needed starting at 7 AM) in Cranford, New Jersey

Campus: Cranford

General Description:

The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and preparation of the Chemistry labs at the Cranford campus. He/she will be responsible for maintaining and ordering equipment and supplies, updating inventory listings, and overseeing security of the labs. The individual may be required to work at other campus locations as needed.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare all materials for scheduled Chemistry labs (for majors and non majors) by setting up necessary equipment and supplies and making up solutions prior to the start of each lab.

• Maintain and disburse all equipment and supplies in laboratory preparatory rooms and laboratories.

• Order and receive new equipment and supplies, maintain order records, and store properly.

• Maintain current inventory listings of all supplies and equipment.

• Assist in the preparation of supply bid lists, and in requisitioning supplies and equipment; prepare, keep files on and note progress of all requisitions.

• Maintain laboratory security and order by seeing that doors and cabinet doors are locked, bench tops and sinks are in order and student stations are properly equipped.

• Be responsible for the proper maintenance of stock, prep rooms, laboratories, and storage equipment.

• Be responsible to ensure that proper housekeeping of labs is performed, including cleaning when necessary.

• Arrange for printing of lab schedules, handouts, lab packets, etc. to be given to instructors and students.

• Properly label all chemicals according to “New Jersey Right to Know Act.”

• Maintain and update records of all hazardous chemicals according to “New Jersey Right to Know Act.”

• Organize lab and equipment for lab use to facilitate smooth changeover of labs conducted in the laboratory classroom.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by Division Dean.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Associate’s Degree in Biology or Chemistry or related field with appropriate experience may be considered.


Preferred Experience:

• Experience working in a laboratory environment, including awareness of safety procedures.

• Strong background/knowledge in mathematics and chemistry.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. • No or very limited exposure to physical risk. • Some travel required.

Terms of Employment:

Part-time Hours not to exceed 25 per week. Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet department needs. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
