Daniels Safety Officer in Chicago, Illinois

With growth both domestically as well as international, Daniels Health seeks a motivated, collaborative, and outgoing Safety Officer to aid in the operational functioning of our Daniels facilities. The Safety Officer will monitor workplace activities to ensure that workers comply with company policies and government regulations pertaining to health and safety. The Safety Officer will have responsibilities pertaining to policy development, facility safety inspections, facility safety and compliance training concerning internal company policies as well as OSHA rules and regulations.

The Safety Officer will report directly to the Director of Compliance. The position will require approximately 75% travel in the U.S. Candidate should reside in the East Coast such as NY, NJ, PA, and MD or in the Midwest area so that the Safety Officer will have easy access to the Daniels facilities located throughout the country.

  • Conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of the Daniels medical waste facilities

  • Observes facility work in progress, ensures that proper safety equipment is worn and procedures are followed

  • Completes internal safety audits conducted at facilities

  • Notifies management regarding violations of safety regulations and codes

  • Makes recommendations to facility management for correction and follows up to ensure that violations have been corrected

  • Conducts or assists facility managers with monthly safety meetings

  • Assists the transportation department with safe driving training and vehicle inspections

  • Analyzes hazards and works with the Compliance Director to develop risk assessments and/or job safety analysis (JSA) for both facility and transportation

  • Enforces policies, plans, and procedures to minimize risk to all Daniels employees

  • Assists in the development of safety modules

  • Investigates safety and health omplaints by all managers and employees

  • Inspects all facility safety equipment to ensure proper operation

  • Maintains accurate records and files related to safety issues, inspections, audits, and training

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Physical Sciences, or a field related to the work

  • Experience administering or assisting in safety programs highly desired

  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to industrial safety and hygiene, occupational hazards, accident and injury prevention techniques, and federal and state laws, codes, and regulations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships

  • Experience in conducting oral and written presentations

  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to work extended hours when required; ability to travel extensively

  • Knowledge of medical waste preferred
