Job Summary – Responsible for the development and implementation of a clinical pharmacy plan which includes and is not limited to clinical initiatives that impact drug utilization, clinical education, staff development, management of appropriate drug utilization, drug spend analysis, and quality improvement activities. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in clinical pharmacy operations for an independent hospital to an integrated delivery networks (IDNs). This position is responsible for coordinating the development and execution of customer solutions that utilize HealthTrust, consulting services and data analysis to assist the customer in achieving their objectives.

Duties (included but not limited to): Leadership

  • Assess and provide leadership in the area of clinical pharmacy operations to guide and support organization’s strategy.

  • Assimilates information from variety of sources, able to analyze data and make recommendations and executes a course of action.

  • Provides leadership in guiding specific hospitals, hospital systems, IDNs, and Parallon Business Solutions as it relates to clinical pharmacy services strategy.

  • Assist in developing and achieves established targets

  • Develops, implements, and coordinates within the hospital or system policies and procedures related to implementation of clinical pharmacy operations.

    Clinical Pharmacy

  • Develops and implements annual clinical pharmacy business plan in conjunction with field and corporate clinical pharmacy groups that ensures positive patient outcomes and appropriate drug utilization. This plan is not limited to but should include the following:

    o Targeting high cost and/or specialized drugs

    o Improve documentation of clinical pharmacy interventions as well as annual optimization of clinical intervention program

    o Assist in development of best practice recommendations for clinical pharmacy procedures to minimize adverse events and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

    o Alignment with CMS, NQSF, FDA, JC, and other national quality agendas.

    o Analyze global pharmacy expense trends in conjunction with AVP and Director, Pharmacy Expense Management to assist in identifying areas of opportunity and implement appropriate use and development of protocols and guidelines.

  • Assist in development of annual formulary strategy working with hospital, system or IDN pharmacy clinical groups.

  • Guides development of supporting documentation, “white papers” or other information needed to facilitate Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee preparation at the facility level.

  • Coordinates preparation, implementation and revision of pharmacy staff competencies related to clinical pharmacy activities.

  • Assists in development and planning of standardized clinical pharmacy programs for facilities.

  • Interacts and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to better understand needs and challenges.

  • Continuously defines and improves customer solutions.

  • Forecasts, develops and executes clinical pharmacy solutions that will meet future needs of customers.

  • Ability to lead and collaborate within a team setting in a variety of functional settings.

  • Provides educational opportunities to customers.

  • Builds and maintains strong, effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders within Parallon Business Solutions, HealthTrust, individual hospitals, hospital systems and IDNs organization’s leadership and staff.

    Education Doctor of Pharmacy Required, Residency Training or BCPS certification preferred.

    Experience A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience as a clinical pharmacist in an acute care setting. Previous experience as a clinical coordinator or Director in a large, complex facility or at a corporate level preferred. Additional skills in database development and project plan structured implementation preferred
