Job Description The Motorist Assist Patrol Lead Operator essentially performs the same function as an operator, except acts in a supervisory capacity as assigned by the Manager.

-Able to prepare shift line-up (Roster) and take disciplinary action as authorized.

-Responsible for monitoring the daily field operations of the Motorist Assistance Program activities and staff, confirms the daily shift schedules and manages the field route assignments.

-Prepare correspondence, accident reports, schedules, forms, presentations, training material, personnel management documentation, and electronic communications.

-Report assigned equipment/vehicle maintenance/repair needs to Manager.

-Participate in operations analysis, including measures of effectiveness, route designations, manning requirements, reporting criteria and methodology, and evaluation of traffic needs, trends, and response.

-Assist with the development and maintenance of Operations Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures/Guidelines.

-When requested by manager or customer, participates in Post Incident Analysis. Perform other duties as assigned.

The inclusive operator tasks are:

Operates out of a Highway Safety vehicle, monitors safety of roadways and communicates with operations staff with regard to disabled/abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closing events; traffic signal malfunctions, damage to equipment and large materials on state roadways, and general incident/congestion scenarios. Specific duties include:

-Coordinates with operations staff to obtain a full understanding of the status of all incident activity.

-Follows all applicable state, local laws and safety guidelines.

-Provides roadside assistance to stranded motorists (including changing tires, giving battery jumps, providing fuel, removing debris from the travel lanes, etc.) and incident response, on-scene traffic control.

-May provide limited first aid and may require CPR/First Aid certification (s).

-May require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Required Skills Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with at least 2-4 years general vehicle maintenance experience. Ability to lead teams of Operators.

Department The Transportation & Infrastructure business unit has four main business streams - surface transportation, aviation, fleet maintenance and infrastructure services, with over 1000 personnel providing these services in the federal, state and local markets.
